Seeing her stay silent, Bianca continued on her own. "My mom probably only told me this because she couldn't stand seeing how I treated Aurelia anymore. Vivienne asked, "So... does Aurelia know the truth?"

Bianca shook her head. "She shouldn't. Grandfather gave a strict order that no one in the family is ever allowed to bring it up again, especially not to Aurelia."

"Not necessarily."

Bianca paused, looking at her in confusion. "Not necessarily? Are you saying Aurelia knows what happened to her parents?"

Vivienne grew thoughtful. "I'm not entirely sure, but I have my suspicions."

"Suspicions? About what?"

Vivienne explained, "Lara. Don't you think her attitude toward Aurelia is exceptionally vicious? Three years ago, when we both gave gifts to Alaric, Aurelia just happened to be in Lara's way, and Lara shoved her right down the stairs. Plus, the way Lara looks at Aurelia is full of pure contempt, like she's looking at some lower life form. She looks at me the same way, but she never looks at you like that."

Bianca thought back for a moment and slowly started to pick up on the discrepancy. "Now that you mention it... could Aunt Evelyn have told Lara about Uncle Benedict? Why else would she be so arrogant?"

"Godmother told you, so it's entirely possible Evelyn told Lara. That part isn't surprising. The key is Aurelia's reaction. She shows an extreme amount of tolerance every time Lara provokes her, almost as if she knows why."

"No way. But who would tell her?" Bianca still found it hard to believe.

Vivienne said, "This is just my guess; it might not be true. But if someone really did leak this to Aurelia, that person is rotten to the core."

Because doing so would shatter Aurelia's spine.
