"What now?"
Alaric didn't look at her. "Wesley, make three copies."
"Yes, sir."
Wesley snatched the paper right out of Vivienne's hand and sprinted off. Less than five minutes later, a single Behavioral Contract had multiplied into four.
Staring down at the four identical contracts spread across the table, Vivienne felt a massive headache coming on. Normal people signed contracts in duplicate. She was signing one in quadruplicate?!
Her face completely devoid of emotion, she pressed her painted thumb onto every single page. "Are we finally done here? Give me my photos and bank statements back!"
Julian tapped the table. "Your phone. Your bank cards."
Vivienne had never imagined that someone as brilliant as her would crash and burn in such a spectacular fashion. She kicked her chair aside, stomped up the stairs to Whitestone Lodge, and eventually came back down holding a single SIM card and one bank card.
"Here. That's everything."
Julian reached out to confiscate her tools of crime, but Vivienne suddenly changed her mind. She snatched the bank card back, looking up at him with massive, pleading eyes. "You can have the SIM card. I promise I'll never contact them again. But please let me keep the bank card? I'm still a lady of the Ravenshire family. If I walk around completely broke, people will laugh at me."
Cyril finally closed the stack of transaction records. He looked up at her, his voice smooth and analytical. "Over the past three years, Julian gave you roughly a million dollars, and Alaric gave you about half a million. But based on a rough estimate of these transactions, you've spent at least two and a half million. Aside from the thirty thousand dollars you spent on your own clothes and a hundred-and-fifty-dollar tube of hand cream, every single cent was poured into funding your little boy toy project."
Vivienne's mouth twitched. "What exactly are you trying to say?"
Cyril's eyes curved into a perfectly warm smile. "I'm saying you're incredibly cheap to maintain. A hundred thousand dollars a year is more than enough for you."
Vivienne, "..."
Julian ruthlessly snatched the bank card out of her hand, completely numb to the world. A million dollars. And all he got out of it was a single tube of discounted hand cream.
Alaric looked equally shell-shocked. He had never given Vivienne massive sums all at once. Whenever she asked, he just gave her what she wanted. He hadn't realized that over three years, she had quietly bled him for half a million dollars.
At least Julian got a tube of hand cream. What did he get? He hadn't even gotten a five-dollar chapstick out of the deal.
In a single sentence, Cyril had successfully pushed both of their tempers to the absolute breaking point.
Alaric stood up, pulling his copy of The Behavioral Contract from the table. His expression was icy. "I expect you to honor the spirit of this agreement."
Julian was nowhere near as polite. He rolled up his copy of the contract and smacked it lightly against Vivienne's forehead. "If you try to pull another fast one on me, I am genuinely going to beat you."
