He rarely smiled like that. His eyes crinkled slightly at the corners, carrying a touch of arrogant ease that made him look simultaneously gentle and utterly detached.
Looking at Cyril's face, Dorian couldn't find the words to argue. He turned the thought over in his mind, didn't spot any major flaws, and finally agreed. "Since you've already made up your mind, do as you see fit. Just remember, don't overplay your hand."
The smile in Cyril's eyes grew a fraction more genuine. "Don't worry, Dad."
"Good. Get some rest."
Dorian had initially planned to offer a few more words of advice, but seeing how perceptive Cyril was, he figured he was overthinking things.
Just as he was about to leave, something occurred to him. He hesitated for a moment. "Cyril, what do you think of Vivienne?"
Cyril's eyelids fluttered slightly, and the smile vanished from his lips. "What do you mean?"
Dorian clarified, "Everyone says she's out of her mind, stubborn, and impossible to get along with. What's your take on her?"
Cyril remained silent.
Dorian looked slightly surprised, an amused tone creeping into his voice. "Cat got your tongue? Is she really that much of a headache?"
Cyril quietly observed Dorian's expression before countering, "Why the sudden interest in her, Dad?"
"It's just because your grandfather adores her so much," Dorian replied. "That girl has a vicious temper and isn't someone you want to cross. From what I've seen, she's absolutely ruthless toward Alaric and Julian."
Remembering how Vivienne actually dared to kick Julian right in front of Caspian, Dorian couldn't help but marvel at her audacity. But it also reaffirmed just how favored she was.
Cyril: "..."
Seeing Cyril stay quiet, Dorian coughed lightly. "Cyril, why don't you try reeling Vivienne in?"
"!" Cyril's eyes twitched. It was the most genuine emotional reaction he'd had all night. He stared at Dorian in disbelief. "Dad, she is nominally my sister."
Dorian was taken aback for a second before he realized the misunderstanding. "What are you thinking? I'm your father, I'm not going to ask you to ruin your own future. I meant, I want you to win her over. Show her some extra care as her older brother."
"Oh." Cyril lowered his eyes, his reaction flat.
