Vivienne Lexton felt the butterfly effect firsthand for the very first time.
Aurelia Ravenshire had only half-awakened, yet the entire school was completely turned upside down.
The sudden rise of the student council president was a miserable blow to the spoiled heirs and heiresses who were used to throwing their weight around.
A wealthy sophomore, in a bad mood, casually bullied a scholarship student. Three minutes later, he was summoned to the student council office. Because his apology lacked sincerity, Aurelia immediately deducted thirty disciplinary points and placed him on academic probation.
The young man was dumbfounded and stubbornly called his family to complain. However, the end result was his parents arriving at the school in thirty minutes, spending barely ten minutes cooperating with the administration to process his probation paperwork.
Rumor had it his father even slapped him across the face.
"You're a trust fund kid right now, but say one more word and I'll cut you off so fast you'll be in debt," his father had warned.
Disciplinary points were something the students in the Elite Talent Building had never cared about. But with this brutal example made, everyone desperately started protecting their scores. Nobody wanted to come in as a senior in the morning and be demoted to a junior by the afternoon.
Julianne Whitmore, furious at being targeted, tried to rally the other old-money and nouveau-riche kids to boycott Aurelia. After all, this was their playground, and Aurelia's endless rules were ruining their fun.
But the kids at the top of the pyramid weren't stupid. While Aurelia's regulations were a bit restrictive, they didn't touch their core interests, and most were happy to do her a favor.
Moreover, anyone with half a brain understood what had happened on the track field that day. Messing with Aurelia meant dealing with a trigger-happy Benedict, a ruthless Vivienne Lexton who sliced through anyone in her way, a whistle-blowing Bianca Whitmore, an indiscriminately aggressive Julian Ravenshire, and an absolutely lethal Alaric Ravenshire who would sweep the board clean.
Provoke one, offend five. It was a terrible deal no matter how you looked at it.
With her rebellion failed, Julianne could only urge her older brother, Bernard Whitmore, to help her scheme.
"Bernard, Aurelia is obviously targeting me. Those cowards are too scared to do anything, but aren't you going to speak up for me?"
