Chaos Girl Rewrites the Script novel Chapter 470

Arlington Manor.

Slap.

Charles Arlington delivered a vicious slap across Lara's face. She let out a cry of pain as she collapsed to the floor.

"What did I do wrong?!" she screamed. "Why are you hitting me?! Just kill me, then!"

It was the very first time Charles had ever hit her. The physical sting was nothing compared to the pure hatred boiling in her chest.

Charles raised his hand to strike again, but Evelyn Ravenshire violently shoved him aside. She threw herself over Lara, clutching her protectively. "Charles! If you touch my daughter again, I'm divorcing you!"

"You!" Charles pointed a trembling finger at Lara, his face twisted in disgust. "Evelyn, how can you still defend her? She acts like this because you spoiled her rotten!"

Evelyn was furious. She stood up and forcefully shoved Charles back. "I spoiled her? You think you have absolutely no responsibility for how your own daughter turned out? The second something goes wrong, it's all my fault?"

"Enough!" Charles snapped impatiently. "What's the point of arguing about this now? Get this complete embarrassment out of my sight and send her away."

Lara clutched her stinging cheek. "I'm an embarrassment? If I'm such an embarrassment, then just leave me alone! Let me rot!"

Charles's rage exploded. "Leave you alone? Just let you run off with whatever random man you want? Did you sneak out again today? Tell me! Who did you go see?!"

Lara snapped. She blindly grabbed a heavy fruit bowl from the coffee table and hurled it at Charles. "I didn't! I never did any of those things! You have no right to question me! Go interrogate those liars!"

Charles couldn't believe she actually retaliated. Thoroughly disgusted, he spat, "Who am I supposed to interrogate? The line of men claiming to have slept with you could stretch all the way to Solenforth! I am not losing my dignity over this!"

"Charles!" Evelyn shrieked hysterically. "Shut your damn mouth!"

Lara, who had been fiercely fighting back, suddenly felt all the strength drain from her body. She looked down and let out a soft, broken laugh. "Fine. If none of you believe me, then just leave me out of this."

With that, she leaned against the coffee table and forced herself to stand.

"Shut up, Charles!" Evelyn, refusing to let Lara hear any more, held her daughter close and whispered comfortingly. "It's not true. Your grandfather wouldn't abandon us. He's said it himself... the Ravenshires never discard their own..."

Lara laughed sharply through her tears. "Never discard their own? What do you call banishing me?"

I don't believe a single word any of you say.

*

Later that night, Evelyn returned to the Obsidian Estate with red, swollen eyes. However, she was told that Caspian had left for Congress. The summit would take two full days, and no outside news was permitted during the session. But if they waited two days, Lara's name would be permanently nailed to the pillar of disgrace.

Evelyn was so panicked she nearly fainted.

Desperate times called for desperate measures. To stop the scandal from escalating, Leander suggested smuggling Lara out of the country overnight. As for the rumors, they would systematically crush the most viral threads first. With the combined influence of the Ravenshire and Arlington families, they could undoubtedly bury the story.
