Vivienne arrived at the cafe first. By the time Mina rushed in, her coffee cup was already half empty.
Mina hadn't expected the vicious harpy to be this reliable, but when it mattered, Vivienne actually showed up.
Mina hurried to the table and cut straight to the chase. "That woman said if I didn't meet her, she'd come straight to the house to find my mom. So..."
Vivienne glanced at her, her tone indifferent. "She's openly blackmailing you. Think carefully about this. If you let her extort you once, there will be a hundred more times after this. Or, you could just come clean to the Blackthornes. Technically, you're a victim in all this. No matter how angry Elder Blackthorne gets, he won't blame you."
Mina looked miserable. "But I can't bear to leave them. I don't want to lose them."
Vivienne didn't reply. It was human nature to hold on.
"But..." Mina's tone shifted, and she clutched her designer bag tightly against her chest. "I came up with a plan on the way here."
If that woman really had ulterior motives, Mina was ready to fight her to the death before letting her succeed.
Vivienne pointed to the adjacent booth. "Let's sit separately. You want to know what her endgame is, right? If she sees me sitting here, she definitely won't tell the truth."
Mina realized she had a point. She hugged her bag and moved to the next booth.
Half an hour later, Rowena finally arrived, strutting in on a pair of garish leopard-print stilettos. She scanned the room, spotted Mina sitting in the corner looking heavily guarded, raised an eyebrow, and sashayed over.
"Sorry about that. Traffic was a nightmare. Have you been waiting long?"
Mina stared at the unbelievably tacky woman in front of her, a whirlwind of conflicting emotions tearing through her chest.
