Clarissa interjected. "Didn't you say you were heading out to grab dinner with Kael and the others? What brings you back?"

Preston kept his tone even. "I just forgot to grab something."

Clarissa nodded. "Alright, go on then. Drive safe, and absolutely no drinking."

"I know."

Preston had barely turned around when Vivienne and Mina suddenly walked into the hall, shoulder to shoulder.

He froze, instantly caught in an awkward standoff.

Mina hadn't expected Preston to still be there. She offered a brief nod. "Preston."

Vivienne didn't even look his way, walking right past him as if he were entirely invisible.

Preston stood there in silence.

Clarissa gave her son a fleeting look before standing up. "Did you girls finish chatting?"

Mina nodded. "Yes. Thank you so much for putting up with us today."

Clarissa waved a hand dismissively. "Don't be silly, it was no trouble at all. It's still early, why don't you stay for dinner?"

"We couldn't, we have things to take care of at home. We'll be heading back now." Mina politely declined, offering a small bow. "Goodbye, Clarissa."

Vivienne offered a slight nod of acknowledgment.

"You aren't staying?" Clarissa looked genuinely disappointed. She shot a glance at one of the maids, who immediately stepped forward carrying two elegantly wrapped gift boxes.
