Bianca fidgeted with the hem of her clothes, a hint of jealousy in her voice. "Honestly, Grandpa. Why is he so nice to that illegitimate son? When is Alaric coming back? If this keeps up, Grandpa will be stolen away by these outsiders."
Vivienne glanced at her. "'These'?"
Bianca shot back indiscriminately, "Don't get too smug. Let me tell you, Alaric is Grandpa's absolute favorite in this family. He's coming back soon, and when he does, all of you will have to step aside."
"Right, right."
Bianca's anger flared. "Vivienne, what's that supposed to mean? I'm warning you, you and your annoying mother better not get any ideas about Alaric. He's the future head of the Ravenshire family, and he would never fall for someone from a broke, washed-up family like yours."
Vivienne stopped walking and turned to look at Bianca. Her eyes were striking and wide, sparkling like sunlight on water when she smiled, but cool and proud when she didn't.
"Don't worry. I will never have anything to do with Alaric again in this lifetime."
Bianca was stunned. By the time she processed it, Vivienne had already turned and walked away.
But... what was with that look just now? She had actually been intimidated by a single glance from Vivienne. Belatedly, Bianca felt a surge of defiance and rushed forward. "You'd better keep your word! Don't go running to do whatever your mother tells you to do!"
Vivienne frowned and stopped again. "Bianca, what exactly are you trying to say?"
Bianca lifted her chin. "What? You can do it, but you can't admit it? Your mom has been asking around about Alaric's preferences, trying to get you to suck up to him. Vivienne, you and your mother are shameless. Your mother loves fooling around with other men, and clearly, she’s taught you every cheap, manipulative trick in her book. You think a pretty face is a permanent ticket into the Ravenshire inner circle? You’re nothing but a temporary distraction."
Evidently, the person in front of her didn't feel that way at all.
Vivienne skipped onto the wooden deck, linking arms with her grandfather while enthusiastically waving at Bianca. "Bianca~ come on! Don't be upset! This lobster is thicker than your leg, it must be delicious."
Seeing how considerate she was, her grandfather was very pleased and nodded in agreement. "Yes, yes!"
Bianca looked horrified. *Wait, how can this little brat be so two-faced?*
Cyril's gaze lingered on Vivienne's face for a moment. The corner of his mouth twitched. It seemed his role as the "common enemy" wasn't quite effective enough. His grandfather's efforts had been for nothing.
