Talia instantly realized that Vivienne's insistence on defending herself meant she didn't trust the people around her. But by confiding everything to Talia, Vivienne proved that she only trusted her mother.
Talia had immediately launched a secret investigation into every lawyer, even preparing several fake defense drafts as a loyalty test.
In court today, the moment the prosecution delivered their opening statement, Talia knew Vivienne's fears were justified. There was definitely a rat in their inner circle.
Furthermore, the leaked information was the very first draft of the defense, which temporarily cleared the hundred-man legal team of suspicion.
However, Talia had no intention of revealing this logic. She refused to let anyone direct their suspicion toward Vivienne.
Seeing her stay quiet, Lucian leaned in and whispered, "Did you investigate the lawyers?"
Talia's gaze locked onto his as she shook her head. "No."
"Hah!" Leander sneered. "Look at that. She won't investigate outsiders, but she's quick to suspect her own flesh and blood."
"Stop acting so passive-aggressive," Benedict said. "I'll investigate this myself and give everyone an answer."
"An answer?" Leander shot back. "To who? For all we know, you're the rat. Who would trust whoever you dig up? If anyone is investigating this, it's me. There's no way I'm letting you dump this mess on our heads."
"Shut up, both of you," Dorian growled, his face thunderous. "Grandpa isn't even here and you're already tearing the place apart?"
The room fell silent, the men exchanging venomous glares.
Alaric remained utterly unbothered, calmly sipping his tea.
Dorian looked at him. "Alaric, what's your take?"
Alaric remained aggressively neutral. "I think Leander makes a fair point. Everything requires evidence."
Benedict jumped up to steady her wheelchair. "Aurelia, don't panic. Tell us slowly."
Aurelia looked at Dorian with a complicated expression. "The Stormhollow Chronicle just published a statement severing ties between the family and Vivienne! The statement says... it says she's not on the family registry and isn't a Ravenshire at all. And the person who issued it... was Dorian."
Alaric froze, a sharp, dangerous glint flashing in his eyes as he stared at Dorian.
Dorian's eye twitched violently. He whipped his head toward Cyril beside him. Cyril looked equally horrified, offering a barely perceptible shake of his head.
Their subtle exchange didn't escape the sharp eyes in the room. Talia exploded. She stood up and pointed straight at Dorian. "The old man isn't even dead yet, and you, a secondary son, dare to issue statements on behalf of the family?! Dorian! Have you completely lost your mind?!"
Dorian wanted to explain, but Talia's insults were merciless. After years of having the world at his feet, he had never been spoken to like this. His face contorted into a cold sneer. "I'm not wasting my breath on you. Grandpa will be home tonight. It's not your place to bark orders here."
With that, he spun on his heel and stormed out of the Main Hall.
