Dorian frowned, looking him up and down. "What nonsense are you spewing?"
"Ganging up with the kids to make a scene. Aren't they just trying to isolate us?"
Everyone knew Julian was a walking disaster for his own father. To expect him to agree with Leander on anything would require the sun to rise in the west.
Leander suddenly noticed someone was missing. "Dorian, where's Cyril? I don't see him. This whole statement fiasco isn't going to blow over quickly. The old man likes Cyril—if he helps cover for you, you might get chewed out a little less."
Remembering the brutal kick he had delivered that afternoon, Dorian's face darkened. "You really think I ordered that statement to go out?"
"Your name was signed at the bottom, wasn't it?"
Dorian said nothing, narrowing his eyes as he studied his brother.
Leander instantly caught the implication. "What's that supposed to mean? Are you suspecting me now?"
Dorian looked away, offering a noncommittal response. "Let's just see Grandpa first."
Watching Dorian walk away, Leander's expression turned incredibly ugly.
Paranoid and suspicious since childhood. It seemed that even if Dorian became the patriarch, his own flesh and blood wouldn't be safe from his wrath.

The night had deepened. Rows of lanterns were lit outside Obsidian Estate, and the headlights of a motorcade wound their way up the mountain, casting long shadows across the courtyard.
As the cars parked, Julian was the first to step out. Just as he reached for the door handle, Dorian beat him to it, pulling the door open. "Dad."
Caspian gave him a brief glance, waved him off, and gripped the doorframe to step out of the car himself.
"Dad."
"Grandpa."
The greetings echoed in unison, dripping with reverence.
Caspian leaned on his walking stick, his gaze sweeping over the crowd. "Where are Vivienne and Cyril?"
Dorian's expression tightened. Just as he was about to explain, Cyril emerged from the gardens. "Forgive me, Grandpa. I was tending to the plants in the courtyard and lost track of time."
"Thank you, Grandpa!" Bianca beamed, taking it with both hands.
Caspian patted her head gently. "That letter... you wrote it very well."
Stars lit up in Bianca's eyes. "You read it, Grandpa?!"
Caspian nodded. "Not only did I read it, but your tutor saw it too. Hearing you were injured, he'll be coming to Athelvia this winter break to tutor you in person."
"Thank you, Grandpa."
Caspian chuckled, looking up at Cedric. "Where is Vivienne? Is she not here yet?"
Right on cue, Marissa practically sprinted in from outside, looking frantic. "Sir."
Talia glanced at Caspian and spoke up for her. "Marissa, where is Vivienne? Is she still too exhausted to come?"
Marissa looked painfully awkward. "Miss Lexton heard the family was disowning her, so she packed her bags and said she's moving back to Vindrell City. I couldn't stop her, so I came to tell you."
