Julian and Alaric froze simultaneously. Suddenly realizing what had just happened, they exchanged cryptic looks.
Bianca's gaze darted between the two men, brimming with hostility. "Why not?! I can't believe even you two aren't standing up for Vivienne."
"..." Julian didn't bother defending himself. His expression turned grave. "Grandpa, the tallest tree catches the most wind. Vivienne just escaped a massive crisis. By giving her an estate and official status right now, you're practically painting a target on her back. The storm hasn't completely passed yet. I really don't think there's any need to thrust her back into the spotlight."
His words struck a chord with Caspian. The reason he hadn't added Vivienne to the registry initially was twofold. First, she had been too young. He wanted to wait until she was older and could make her own choices.
Second, he wanted to protect her. Absolute power always came with inherent danger. Since Vivienne wasn't bound by blood, Caspian simply wanted her to live a safe, peaceful life.
Noticing Caspian's silence, Alaric carefully weighed his words. "Grandpa, if you're worried about her future, you can set up an independent trust fund for her in addition to Onyx Manor. As for her official status... I don't think we should rush it. She's still young and shouldn't be tied down by so many restrictions. Becoming a Ravenshire might not actually be a good thing for her."
Caspian had actually considered this as well.
If he were to pass away one day, leaving her surrounded by ambitious wolves, the title of a Ravenshire heiress would become a heavy burden. Cold, hard cash would be much more practical.
Julian and Alaric discreetly observed Caspian's expression. Seeing the contemplation in his eyes, they both breathed a sigh of relief.
They were about to press their advantage when they unexpectedly locked eyes with Vivienne's murderous glare.
"..."
The air grew thick with awkward tension.
Julian hadn't seen Vivienne for over half a month, ever since he had gone abroad with Caspian. He had planned to mend their relationship upon returning, only to run face-first into this mess.
Alaric didn't care about Onyx Manor, but he cared about an empty title? There was definitely something fishy going on here.
Since they were in different camps, Dorian should naturally support whatever Alaric opposed. However, everyone in the room was sharp. Even if Dorian wanted to push back, he couldn't make it too obvious.
At that moment, Cyril spoke up again. "Grandpa, I actually think adding her to the registry right now is a good move. It would instantly shatter all the rumors floating around outside. Besides, shouldn't your wishes and Vivienne's feelings be what matters most? Why should we care what outsiders think?"
Those words smoothed over all of Dorian's anxieties. Cyril really was always looking out for his father's best interests.
Vivienne stared at Cyril, sizing him up. For some inexplicable reason, she suddenly found him much more tolerable.
Alaric frowned, silently scrutinizing Cyril's every move.
