Julian was the first to leave the Main Hall. As he passed the window, he tapped Vivienne on the forehead. "Don't sit in the draft. Go back to your room."
"Mind your own business," Vivienne fired back automatically.
Julian really couldn't control her, so he simply reached over and shut the window.
"...You!"
Over the past two years, Julian had grown taller, but his brain hadn't matured a day. He was getting more childish by the minute!
Vivienne rolled her eyes, thoroughly annoyed.
Just then, Manager Hughes hurried into the room with his security team.
"Mr. Ravenshire! Oh, you are a savior to our establishment. If it weren't for you, we would never have been able to clear our name."
He shifted his sharp gaze to the kidnappers kneeling on the floor. "These are the ones?"
"Manager Hughes, please find another place for them to stay tonight," Cyril instructed.
Such polite treatment from a Ravenshire was overwhelming for a mere hotel manager. Hughes bowed deeply, visibly flattered. "It's already arranged. I was just about to ask for your approval."
Cyril stood up, his eyes briefly flicking toward Vivienne. "Lead the way," he said softly.
"Right away."
Manager Hughes signaled his security guards, who dragged the tightly bound men out of the room.
Vivienne pushed the window back open, watching their retreating figures blur through the dense curtain of rain.
She still felt a lingering sense of unreality. Was it really resolved just like that?
Maybe she had been through too much chaos, but this sudden stroke of smooth sailing felt entirely wrong. There was a glaring inconsistency in the story, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"Boom—!"
Lightning tore through the rolling clouds, and the gale-force winds whipped the torrential rain against the glass. In an instant, the courtyard's pear blossoms were stripped bare.
Vivienne pressed a hand to her chest. A spark of realization ignited in her mind.
She knew what felt wrong. It was the storm.
The rain had severed their connection to the outside world, creating a scenario far too identical to the storm she experienced at twelve.
"What is it?"
