"Mmph! Mmph!"
Lightning cleaved the night sky in two, and the torrential rain hammered the glass like steel needles, the chaotic rhythm drowning the room.
Bianca Whitmore gasped loudly against the floorboards. Bound hand and foot, she wiggled like a caterpillar, desperately trying to rub the duct tape off her mouth against the ground.
Click. Clack.
The heavy thud of leather shoes echoed through the floor vibrations, cutting through the drumming rain outside.
Someone was coming.
The footsteps drew nearer. With a black blindfold over her eyes, she had no idea who it was.
But she knew the person was standing right in front of her. Watching her.
Bianca went rigid, subtly inching backward.
Didn't they say there were no kidnappers? Why was someone grabbing her? What did they want?
Was Vivienne safe? Had she fallen into a trap too?
Just as her mind raced, a sharp flick struck her right on the forehead.
A forehead flick?!
...
All her panicked thoughts were instantly swatted away.
"So, you're Vivienne Lexton?"
The voice was terribly grating, distorted by a voice changer.
Bianca's eyelashes fluttered, and her breathing hitched.
So their actual target was Vivienne.
Seeing she wasn't responding, the attacker gave her another hard flick. "I'm talking to you."
Bianca tilted her head up and let out a muffled grunt of acknowledgment.
"Oh, right, your mouth is taped. My bad. My guys were a little too rough."
The attacker let out a half-hearted chuckle. He sounded apologetic, but his hands were anything but gentle. With a loud, painful rip, he tore the tape right off her mouth.
...
Bianca let out a painful whimper, quickly choking out, "Who are you? Why did you grab me? What do you want—mmph!"
"Too noisy." The attacker impatiently slapped the tape right back on. "Why do you have so many questions? Am I the kidnapper or are you?"
Bianca stretched her neck, letting out a muffled, "Yoo ahr."
