Cyril nodded. "What about you? Why are you out here?"
Vivienne's expression was grave as she shook her head. "I had a feeling you guys were hiding something from me. I was worried, so I sneaked out."
She made it sound like a walk in the park, but the reality was she had narrowly escaped death multiple times tonight.
Shortly after Wesley Crain left, Vivienne slipped out of The Screening Room.
She had intended to find Cyril in the hotel lobby to demand answers, but she was ambushed on the way and had to scramble for cover.
The assassins seemed singularly focused on her. No matter where she hid, they found her.
She had played a deadly game of cat and mouse with them for half an hour. Just as she was about to be captured alive, she threw herself into the lake.
The killers were relentless, diving in right after her. Luckily, she had learned how to dive in this life, so she held her breath and swam deep to the bottom, using her superior water skills to evade them.
She swam aimlessly until she hit a rocky wall and decided to climb up for air. The moment she slipped into a room, she heard gunshots outside. Assuming it was the assassins again, she jumped back into the lake—leading directly to her chaotic encounter with Cyril.
Cyril frowned. "Vivienne."
She had just talked about being honest, yet here she was, dodging the question about her own situation.
Vivienne didn't respond, her mind solely focused on the three idiots' plan.
Sensing her evasion, Cyril's expression hardened.
"There have been too many variables tonight. The plan is completely ruined. Julian wouldn't just wait under the bridge if no one showed up; he'd find a way to survive. Alaric is Sebastian Ravenshire's only son; he definitely has a backup plan. You don't need to worry about anyone else. Right now, the priority is keeping you safe."
His gaze drifted down to Vivienne's mud-caked toes.
