Cyril forcefully pinned her against his chest. "I know you're furious, but it's not safe. Stay down here. I'll draw them away."
"Don't go!" Vivienne grabbed his arm.
He looked back at her, a teasing smirk playing on his lips. "Holding onto me like this... do you want to die together?"
He thought she would snap at that, but instead, Vivienne grabbed him by the waistband of his pants and gave a hard yank. "Didn't you hear me tell you to come back?"
Cyril's smile stiffened as he awkwardly pulled his pants back up.
Vivienne quickly scanned their surroundings, hooked her arm through his, and pressed tightly against the tree trunk.
Cyril stared blankly at their intertwined arms.
So this was what it felt like to have someone by your side. A profound sense of peace washed over him. Suddenly, life and death didn't seem to matter so much anymore.
"Cyril," Vivienne turned her head, a heavy raindrop splashing against her nose. "Let's figure this out together."
The storm raging in Cyril's eyes quieted.
"Okay."

"Hurry up," Bianca Whitmore looked back at the dawdling Amadis Beaufort, her annoyance clear. "If you keep dragging your feet, the sun will be up before we get anywhere."
Amadis Beaufort crossed his arms, equally displeased. "Who are you yelling at? Don't forget your place. You're still my hostage."
Bianca swallowed her temper. "Didn't you agree to one last bet? If one person in the Ravenshire family risks their life to save me, just like I did for Vivienne, I win. You not only have to let me go, but you also have to help us fight those assassins. Don't tell me you're backing out."
Amadis scoffed. He reached his hand out past the edge of the roof, the heavy rain instantly soaking his palm.
"What's the rush? We'll go when it lets up."
