The next morning, the news of Julian being shot finally reached Obsidian Estate. Caspian flew into an apocalyptic rage and immediately rushed to the hospital.
The rest of the family was shocked, but mostly just incredibly anxious. However, because Caspian had issued a strict lockdown—ordering no one to leave the estate until his return—everyone had no choice but to wait nervously in their own courtyards.
Dorian had a high-level executive board meeting that morning. By the time he heard the news, he was already two hours late.
He hadn't slept a wink in two days. On top of that, he had just spent the entire morning locked in a vicious battle of wits with Leland Kenyon. He was completely physically and mentally drained.
Massaging his temples, Dorian asked wearily, "Julian was shot. What explanation did Leander give?"
Moira answered softly, "Mr. Ravenshire claims that Julian pulled a gun on him, demanding to know if he was involved in the attacks at the resort. The two of them got into a struggle, the gun went off, and Julian was accidentally shot."
Dorian frowned deeply. What an absolute mess.
Moira smoothly handed him a glass of warm water. "Sir, word from the hospital says Caspian lost his temper completely in the ward. He even laid into Mr. Ravenshire."
Dorian looked displeased. Checking the time, he sighed. "Reschedule my lunch with Chairman Warner."
"Are you heading to the hospital?"
Dorian stood up and straightened his cuffs. After a moment's thought, he said, "No, we're going to Obsidian Estate to check on Cyril."
Human nature was a funny thing; everything was relative.
Dorian had originally been furious about Cyril questioning him the night before, but after comparing him to an absolute psycho like Julian, Dorian suddenly realized just how incredibly valuable Cyril was.
To be completely fair, apart from the stain on his birth record, his son was absolutely flawless. If Jaxen possessed even half of Cyril's competence, Dorian would have thanked the heavens on his knees.
Moira was slightly surprised, though her expression didn't shift in the slightest as she silently updated the itinerary.
