Vivienne chuckled, pretending she didn't catch his hidden sarcasm, and looked down at the whorls on her fingertips.
Cyril casually pulled up a chair beside the bed. Seeing her ignore him, he broke the silence. "Does it still hurt?"
It had hurt at first, but after passing out from the pain and waking up, the wound was completely numb. If Dr. Cole hadn't repeatedly assured her it was just a highly effective painkiller, Vivienne would have thought she was paralyzed.
"No pain. I can't feel a thing."
Vivienne rolled her eyes thoughtfully, a sudden idea popping into her head. She looked up and studied Cyril.
Although they both had similar, slightly uptilted eyes, Cyril's seemed somehow more striking.
His eyes were long and swept upwards at the corners, perfectly contoured without a trace of effeminacy. His gaze was as deep as ink, framed by thick lashes. Amadis was devastatingly handsome and aggressive, but Cyril possessed an innate elegance.
For some reason, she suddenly recalled the look in Cyril's eyes when he raised the gun and shot Balthazar Beaufort. It was as if, even while killing, he carried an air of aristocratic grace.
Noticing Vivienne's gaze lingering on his face, Cyril felt a strange ripple in his chest. He turned his head away, slightly uncomfortable. "What is it now?"
Vivienne kept her eyes locked on his. "Nothing. Just suddenly realized you have really nice eyes."
Cyril's attention zeroed in on *you have really nice eyes*, and the corners of his lips unconsciously curved upward.
Unaware that he had just swallowed the bait, Vivienne tested the waters. "I don't think you look like your dad at all. Do you take after your mom? She must have been a stunning beauty, right?"
Cyril's eyes darkened, and his lips pressed into a tight, imperceptible line.
Seeing his reaction, Vivienne realized she had been too eager and stepped on a landmine.
