"Cyril!"
Dorian hurried out of Vellmont Lodge, rushing to catch up with Cyril.
Cyril glanced back indifferently through lowered lashes before speeding up his pace toward Blackbriar Wing.
Lennox Raynor stood guard outside the courtyard, utter bewilderment written across his broad, honest face.
Was the sun rising in the west? Why was Mr. Ravenshire chasing after Cyril like that?
"Mr. Cyril," Lennox trotted forward to greet him. "Why are you..."
Cyril brushed past him without a sideways glance. "I need a towel and ice."
Only when Cyril got close did Lennox see the glaring handprint on his face. He froze for a second before sprinting into the courtyard to get the supplies.
Cyril headed straight for the Main Hall.
Dorian had never been given the cold shoulder like this. Even if he had gone a bit far this time, Cyril's reaction was entirely disproportionate.
Noticing Dorian's displeasure, Moira Nash spoke up softly. "Mr. Ravenshire, I don't think Mr. Cyril wants to see us right now."
Dorian frowned, his expression growing darker.
Moira continued, "I have a young nephew. There was a time when he kept coming home with bruises on his face. Whenever the family asked who hit him, he swore he just fell."
Dorian's expression flickered, and he turned to look at Moira.
Moira kept her head bowed. "The family eventually went to the school and found out a little girl had been bullying him. My nephew was so embarrassed that he hid the truth."
It finally clicked for Dorian. Cyril was acting this way out of shame.
He had never really raised a child, and this sudden realization stirred a bizarre, unfamiliar sensation in his chest.
After a brief hesitation, Dorian walked toward Blackbriar Wing.
