Vivienne Lexton?
Stellan looked up at Preston, his expression twisting with genuine confusion. "I... I don't have any relationship with her. Killing her was just an order."
No relationship?
Preston narrowed his eyes slightly, a flicker of an unidentifiable emotion crossing his face.
"Two years ago, didn't you go to Stormhollow Central High specifically to see her?"
Stellan vividly remembered that day. A stunning, ridiculously wealthy girl had randomly marched right up to him and called him a hideous, despicable lowlife. The memory was burned into his brain.
After thinking for a moment, Stellan shook his head and answered honestly. "That was the first time we ever met."
"The first time?" Preston fell silent. He casually flicked his finger, lowering the weapon, and pulled a crumpled check from his pocket, tossing it onto the floor in front of Stellan.
"For your medical bills."
Without another word, the bodyguards pulled the door open. Preston shoved his hands into his pockets and walked out, never once looking back.
The summer breeze drifted through the white curtains. Stellan grabbed the striped bedsheet, methodically wiping the blood from his hands before slowly reaching down to pick up the check.
A hundred thousand dollars. Exactly enough to cover his grandmother's care center fees for an entire year.
After failing the lodge mission, he had received zero commission and suffered severe internal injuries.
His body was too wrecked to fight in the underground rings, and he had been desperately trying to figure out how to survive when Preston Everhart suddenly appeared, casually tossing him a lifeline.
There were no coincidences in this world. The Everhart heir was clearly a dangerous predator.
But a man with a worthless life didn't have the luxury of being picky.
Stellan let out a low, dark chuckle and carefully tucked the check into his pocket.
