That afternoon, upon hearing that Vivienne had been bitten by bugs, Caspian immediately ordered the landscaping staff to thoroughly fumigate Vellmont Lodge.
Dr. Cole stopped by twice, but Vivienne was conveniently either in the shower or using the bathroom. Left with no choice, he prescribed some antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ointments based solely on Marissa's description.
That evening, Alaric deliberately brought a gift to visit her, only to be told that Vivienne had just applied her medication and was too uncomfortable for guests.
Strictly adhering to proper etiquette, Alaric suspected nothing. He left the gift and departed without pressing the issue.
The next day, he timed his visit for when Vivienne usually relaxed, but was once again turned away, told it was an inconvenient time.
Alaric remained silent and simply returned to Wolfram Manor.
Watching his clueless boss strike out twice, Wesley kept a straight face, but internally, he was throwing a parade.
Serves him right!
He was terrible at this and refused to listen to advice. He deserved it!
Alaric walked into his study with a calm demeanor and sat on the chaise lounge to read, just as he always did.
He lowered his gaze, his fingers tracing the edge of the book. Ten minutes passed, and his eyes were still locked on the exact same line.
After a long silence, Alaric snapped the book shut and looked up at Wesley, who was lounging by the window.
"Why is she suddenly avoiding me? Everything was fine before."
Wesley crossed his arms and raised a brow. "Are you asking me, Boss?"
Alaric's eyes darkened.
Wesley's heart skipped a beat. He immediately hopped off the window sill and sat across from Alaric on the lounge.
"Great question, Boss. Everything was fine, and now she's avoiding you. Obviously, someone is driving a wedge between you!"
Alaric frowned, looking unconvinced. "Cyril? We are gentlemen in our rivalry; he wouldn't stoop to that."
"..."
Wesley's eyes widened in utter disbelief, as if he'd just heard the joke of the century. "Gentlemen in rivalry? Boss, do you actually like Miss Lexton? Or do you just not know what liking someone even means?"
Alaric pondered for a moment, looking at Wesley without responding.
