That evening, all the members of the Ravenshire family gathered at the Obsidian Estate.

In the main hall of the Obsidian Estate, the second and third branches of the family occupied opposite sides of the room. Some chatted, while others looked at their phones. The staff moved in and out in an orderly fashion, serving each of the young masters and ladies their preferred beverages.

Charles kept glancing toward the door, asking Evelyn in a low voice, “Why isn't the old man here yet?”

Evelyn glanced at the third branch of the family across from them, who all looked murderous. She leaned in and whispered, “No one can predict Dad’s temper. We’ll just have to wait patiently.”

The feud between the Ravenshires and the Whitmores had become the talk of high society. Rumors were flying that Damien’s leg was broken because he wanted a divorce. As another son-in-law of the Ravenshire family, Charles suddenly felt like he had a knife hanging over his head.

Leander noticed his brother-in-law's unease and spoke up with a smile. “Speaking of which, congratulations are in order for Mr. Arlington. Once it's confirmed that Ethan sold the Gold Hill property to Marindor for a military base, the Athelvia government will certainly reclaim it. To boost the local economy, the government will relaunch development on that land as quickly as possible. Someone once estimated its value; once the commercial chain is in place, it would be a project worth hundreds of billions.”

It was a real rollercoaster, a hopeless situation that had suddenly turned around.

As Leander said, when Charles had embezzled public funds to acquire that land, he had been banking on its commercial value. As long as the initial planning was sound, plenty of banks and corporations would be willing to invest. He could then use the investors' money to cover the embezzled government funds, effortlessly accumulating a fortune in the billions.

Evelyn looked around carefully. “I don't see Victoria. Didn't she come with you?”

Dorian replied flatly, “She's at the Montclair estate.”
