Chase Me Alpha (Daria and Caleb) novel Chapter 130

Chapter 130

Caleb’s POV

A beat passed.

Then, almost at once, all of us began to talk, our words aimed at he Pack doctor.

“How is she-”

“Doctor tell us—”

“Doctor, please-”

The pack doctor had a look of bewilderment on his face, his eyes flickering from one of us to the other.

Finally he sighed, and shook his head.

“She is fine,” the Pack doctor started, but the raised his hand to stop another barrage of questions before they even began. “But she isn’t awake yet. Her injuries are minor, and I’ve managed to draw out most of the poison that was used on her.”

As relieving as his words sounded there was a tone of grimness that accompanied it.

“Doctor, what’s wrong with her?” I demanded urgently, simultaneously steeling myself for the news.

Everyone fell silent, waiting for him to speak.

The pack doctor hesitated, before bowing his head.

“Well, there are some… complications… relating to her pregnancy” he finally said.

What?

My brain screeched tk an abrupt halt.

“Pregnancy?” Sabrina asked, before letting out a gasp. “She is…”

“Yes,” the pack doctor replied. “Over a month pregnant, I believe. But with the poison in her system, it’s become unstable. She’s at risk of having a miscarriage. She will not be able to wake now, and her body is going to need more time to recover

Everything seemed to hit me at once; Daria was pregnant, and she could lose the child… I clenched my hands into fists.

“Doctor, do whatever you can to save her,” I said, my voice cracking at the end. I was overwhelmed, too much had happened in the last two days, and I had to hold it all in while handling pack matters.

“And the baby too,” Sabrina softly said. She stumbled, stepping back into Jacob’s arms. I glanced worriedly at her; her face was pale and the fierceness had left her face, leaving a fragile, frail woman worried for her best friend.

“Jacob, maybe you should take her to rest,” I calmly suggested, letting out a soft exhale. “When she wakes up, you’ll be informed.”

He nodded, eagerly beginning to coax his mate out of the clinic

As they left, I managed to relax a tad. Eric Nolan was still there, his eyes unreadable. I could feel his gaze locked on my face, but the truth was, I didn’t feel comfortable about it. He was one person who never liked me, especially when it had to do with Daria.

“I bet you’re pissed off right now,” I said, clasping my hands together. “You wish you could get her away from here, away from me. Don’t you?”

He was silent, but then he gave a one-word answer.

“Yes.”

His voice was full of grievance, aimed solely at me, I knew that now, there was no other reason to keep playing nice with me and my Pack, Eric Nolan would probably convince Daria to leave with him, to relocate to the Crimson Pack. And if he had his way… I would never see her again.

To my surprise he continued, letting out a soft sigh.

Third time the charm, I thought.

Down the hallway, much closer to the entrance, I saw the reddened hues of the setting sun cast a glow over a portion of the walls and floor.

After some time I returned to my mansion. Alpha Townsend and Master Killian had, by Jacob’s verbal report, taken care of the rest of the prisoners. Alpha Gerald and his men had been soundly defeated, and thus fled back to the Ligand pack. However he was too narrow minded and didn’t expect that we, who had been keeping an eye on him after the alliance, had informed the Elders of the Ligand Pack of the development. Immediately he returned to his pack, licking his wounds, he was summoned by the Elders and removed promptly from his position as Alpha, ending up exiled for his actions.

“Killian really helped us out with the Crimson pack,” Jacob had smirked wickedly. “They ran that greedy bastard Gerald out of the region. Last I checked, he’s entering darker territory. Serves him right!”

Now, there was no other Pack in the region that was working with the rogues. The rogues, with Jamal’s death, were also no more.

All was finally over.

But even then, there was no peace for me.

I restrained myself from breaking out into a yawn, re-entering the mansion at the dead of night. I had just finished seeing off Alpha Townsend. The alliance would meet tomorrow, and Alpha Ferdinand, Gerald’s replacement, was going to attend as well.

There was too much to do, enough to trouble my rest. However my main thoughts remained on Daria, who was still unconscious… and my child in her womb.

The head maid of the mansion met me at the foyer, bowing deeply. Her brows were furrowed in slight concern, and the chandelier overhead illuminated her greying brows and hair in a warm glow.

“Alpha,” she greeted. “Do you wish to have dinner sent up to your rooms?”

I shook my head. I hadn’t eaten anything all day, but I truly didn’t have an appetite.

Especially not when I wasn’t sure when she would wake up. I didn’t feel ready to even rest, only I knew I had to listen to my body.

“Don’t bother, Estelle,” I replied, and dismissed her. I hurried up to my suite, and took off my clothes. A day’s worth of sweat and grime stuck to my skin, making me uncomfortable.

A quick shower, and I returned to my bed. As soon as my head hit the pillow, Ann weariness returned and I was out like a light.
