Chase Me Alpha (Daria and Caleb) novel Chapter 129

Chapter 129

Caleb’s POV

My head shot up and gazed in the direction of the mansion, where the sound had come from. It was a familiar voice, one that always set my teeth on edge. Felicia.

It seemed that she too was still alive.

“You heard that, right?” Jacob asked, walking up to me. His brows were furrowed as he looked at me. I nodded in response, and together we rushed towards the mansion. The gates were left open, and the guards were not at their posts.

As we entered the mansion, the men behind us spread out wordlessly, each of them in search of the sounds, in search of Daria.

*Sabrina came here,” I muttered. Has she found Daria already?

Then I heard another loud scream coming from upstairs. Instantly Jacob and I acted without even exchanging glances or a word. The sound had been so blood-curdling that anyone would think someone had died.

We ended up following the trail to the balcony on the top floor. That was when I saw it; the corpses of Red Vale Pack guards littered every few steps. Sabrina had been thorough, and I saw she and a few of our men were battling another group in front.

Jacob immediately jumped into the fray, side by side with his mate. Together they worked perfectly, clearing the last of the enemies blocking our path.

Meanwhile I was searching my mind for a trace of Daria. Her scent was definitely in the mansion, but it was all over the place. Then, one of my men reported: “Lady Felicia holds Lady Daria hostage, Alpha Caleb.”

No sooner had those words left his mouth than I pushed forward and nearly stopped at the sight before me.

“I’ll kill her! Not one step closer, Caleb! All of you, retreat!” Felicia’s hair was disheveled, her breaths ragged. Even as she was dressed in the most glamorous clothes, she appeared like a mad woman. And a crooked, manic smile was pasted on her lips.

She held an unconscious Daria by the beck, dragging her backward towards the edge of the balcony.

My voice rang out in warning, “Felicia! Stand Down! You are surrounded!”

Yet she let out a cold, bitter laugh.

“Of course! You came for her! But when have you ever cared about me like this?! You killed my mate! Why else would I kill yours?!” Her high-pitched voice cracked, almost sorrowful. But not one tear slipped from her lips. She wasn’t upset that Jamal was dead, she was angry that her plans had been upended. The Red Vale Pack was now defeated, and she was the last one standing.

“There’s nowhere for her to run,” Jacob muttered underneath his breath.

But that didn’t stop me from remaining cautious. I gazed upon Daria’s pale face, almost white. Her body was limp, and chains were still wrapped around her neck, shackling her limbs. caught the dried blood on her lips, her wrists, her neck being chafed and raw with bruises from the chains. Seeing her in that state, powerless and helpless, my anger surged with fiery intensity once more.

“I’ll ask you one last time for the sake of your family name, Felicia,” I spoke, leaving no room for argument. Beside me, Sabrina and Jaocb were clearly on edge. Felicia took another step back, this time flattening herself against the railing on the balcony. “Let her go. Perhaps there will be mercy for you then.”

As I spoke I gave a short gesture, one that Jacob and Sabrina must have understood.

Felicia’s breath caught, her eyes flickering down to Daria, her red hair splayed out, covering most of her face as she was jostled by Felicia’s arm.

That sliver of hesitation was all that Sabrina needed. She took it and dashed out, roaring with fervour.

“You bitch!”

It happened in one second. Felicia tried to throw Daria from the balcony but fell to the ground with a loud scream. Sabrina tackled her, raining punch after punch on Felicia, her eyes gleaming with hatred.

I grabbed Daria’s body, holding her in my arms. She didn’t wake and noticed her heartbeat was too faint, her scent muddled with a layer of sickness, her body too cold.

Panicked, I pressed my fingers to her neck, feeling her pulse.

“You dare! You bitch! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!!’Sabrina was raving barely holding back. She spat on Felicia, kicking her and no one dared to stop her. Only after a minute did Jacob grab his mate by the waist from behind, pulling her flailing self off Felicia.

“A-Alpha, it’s orders from the pack doctor. He is handling Lama with utmost care,” The apprentice muttered, not meeting my eyes.

I longed to lash out at the apprentice, to assert my position and force my entry. I wanted to see her, but I knew that the pack doctor was no fool. He would care for her, he would make sure she woke up.

Thinking that I began to pace, my body was weary but unable to relax. Until I saw she was okay, I couldn’t help it.

I wanted to hit something.

If only I had come earlier. I remembered how weak Daria’s voice had sounded the evening before through the mind-link. Had she been poisoned back then? Or had it been afterwards?

Whatever it was, I didn’t care.

I wasn’t sure how long I moved back and forth until the overhead white lights were dizzying and the stench of the sterile clinic was all I could smell.

It was the commotion outside that made me lift my head up.

“What’s going on?” The apprentice guarding the door asked another that came rushing down with a pale face. Before the apprentice could answer, Sabrina, Jacob, and Eric rushed forward behind him, their brows furrowed and faces flushed. They must have run back in a hurry, I realized.

“How is she? Is she awake?”Sabrina asked me, her breaths ragged. She leaned against Jacob who glanced at her, his eyes. tinged with unmistakable worry for her.

“I don’t know, “I gruffly replied, already out of patience myself. glanced at Eric, whose clothes were stained in blood, his hair disheveled. His face bore a faint scar, like a claw had tried to gouge his eyes out. “Where’s Killian?” I asked.

“He’s handling the rest of the cleanup with Alpha Townsend.” Jacob was the one that answered with a sigh. “We didn’t sustain any heavy losses, thank the Goddess. Most of Jamal’s men are dead too. Those left alive have been taken captive. Mostly women and children, a few elderly. The able-bodied men are all lead.”

I nodded. While a part of me didn’t enjoy killing, this war wasn’t going to end until everyone involved was corralled and punished.

Just then, the sound of a throat clearing made all of us turn around.
