When Daria had stormed off I’d been in the worst of moods the that I couldn’t even bear to be in anyone’s presence.
How could she choose Raul over me? I was her actual mate. And yet everything I did seemed to antagonize her.
Furious I’d gone to cool off at the training center where a few warriors watched while I battered down the wooden dummies, destroying each one with just a few hits.
“What has the Alpha in such a mood?” One had whispered behind my back. My ears pricked as I heard the gossiping and rumors swirl while I took my anger out on the inanimate targets
Raul would regret ever getting between me and Daria. That I promised solemnly.
But then she hadn’t shown up to lunch. Not even a whiff of her scent was caught throughout the afternoon. Once the sun had begun to set I got restless.
To my surprise I wasn’t the only one who felt the same way as the maid Sabrina meekly knocked on the door just a few minutes past 5pm.
“Alpha,” she began softly. “The Healer hasn’t returned yet. I think she might be missing or…”
Her words stirred my spirit and I stood. If Daria was missing this was a big problem. Not just for myself but for the health of Elder Gerome.
That was how we began to search for her. I’d arranged for the guards to search several other places on the pack while I entered the forest alone.
To my anger Raul had followed behind. The Beta of the Dartmouth pack was nothing but frustrating.
Worse, the second he heard a loud scream he shifted into his wolf form just as I did.
It was just our luck and the moon goddess’ blessing that she wasn’t harmed before we got to her.
Facing the wolves who had surrounded us, Raul and I made quick work of them.
They jumped at us as soon as they realized we weren’t there to fucking play.
One by one they fell.
Daria’s wolf hunched down as she dodged various blows from the assailants.
Suddenly the enemies scattered with a loud howl piercing the ai Soon it would be like they hadn’t come at all.
I growled as I gave chase to the closest wolf, swiftly tackling him to the ground. Soon he was pinned underneath my grasp
The wolf howled in pain as my claws dug into his neck, almost roping into skin through thick brown fur.
Trying to change tactics the wolf suddenly rippled before my eys. The fur shifted into skin and body becoming smaller and smaller in size.
I scared immediately and shifted back to my human form despite his trying I was much faster and grabbed him by the arms, seething.

“There’s nowhere else for you to run,” I growled at the man who went pale with beads of sweat forming over his face.
“Alpha Caleb!”
Raul’s voice tore through the tension in the air and I turned to find him running to meet me where I stood. Behind him a pale Daria stumbled along.
Then I felt a stinging sensation on the back of my neck and quickly moved one of my hands to feel it. A tiny needle was stuck, causing an alarm to surge through me.
Suddenly the man beneath me shoved me down in my distraction before breaking off into a run.
“Caleb!”
I faintly heard Daria scream as footsteps pounded on the hard ground. I caught a glimpse of Raul chasing after the man but I couldn’t stand. My limbs became too weak all of a sudden.
I had been drugged, I realized. That stinging needle had been filled with something. A tranquilizer or poison.
My body shook with anger as I tried and failed to stand up.
A nearby guard rushed over with a cloak, wrapping it around my waist and it was then I realized I had been naked.
My gaze flickered to Daria who stood frozen, mouth agape and then it all went black.
“How is he Healer Daria?”
Those were the first words I heard when I came back to reality. A first the voices were muffled and echoed through my head in a thundering manner.
Wincing I turned my head and tried to remain calm as my breathing sped up.
“He’s alright. Thank the goddess it was only a tranquilizer. It wasn’t a heavy one for his system so he should be back to normal by tomorrow morning,” Daria’s voice sharpened as I opened my eyes. My vision swam for only a moment before I coughed loudly.
Everyone’s eyes turned to me. With a low husky voice I raised my shaky hand.
“Water,” I said. Suddenly there was a flurry of movement and a glass of water was pushed into my hand by a maid. I gulped it down. Each gulp of water was so fucking refreshing I almost cried.
But it wasn’t enough.
Without another word I grabbed the pitcher of water from the aids hands and she squeaked and stepped back. The water sloshed around in the pitcher as I held it and placed the rim to my lips. Soon it filled my mouth and each wonderful gulp of water savoured by my parched throat.
Finishing it I handed it back to the maid who wordlessly took it and bowed before rushing out in a flurry.
Then I raised my head again to face the rest. In the room was Jacob, looking grimly at me. One of the Elders was also there, and then there was Daria. Her eyes met mine calmly and I remembered how high pitched and concerned her voice had been when she screamed my name back then.
Had that simply been a dream? Or was her look of indifference merely a mask?
“Alpha Caleb,” the Elder in the room who I recognized to be Eld Fallon, spoke with a grave tone. “Thank the Moon Goddess for her blessings. You are safe and healthy.”

Jacob spoke up and cut off whatever else elder Fallon wanted to y. His posture was tense and voice spoke of agitation.
“Whatever they planned didn’t work. But this is a terrible thing. We need to act fast,” My friend said.
“Were you able to track any one of the assailants?” I asked. My voice was a lot clearer now.
He shook his head.
“We found signs of struggle but nothing else. No traces at all. In fact it appears they might have come out of thin air for all we know.”
“But they didn’t,” I replied. “Do you think they could be the rogues causing chaos in the area?”
My words carried a weight to them.
At first he pursed his lips but hesitantly he nodded.
“There’s no other explanation for it. From our investigation there’s no way they could have come from any of the neighboring packs. This happened in our territory, even if it was close to the border.”
This was a serious issue then.
If they were truly the rogues, then how had they come into the pack? Was this how they operated?
A chill ran down my spine and I clenched my hands tightly.
