To my utmost surprise we didn’t head in the direction of the dining hall. Instead Raul tugged me along and stopped at the entrance of the garden. It was beautiful,

The cool breeze and clear skies created a comfortable atmosphere. He turned to me and smiled as charming as ever.

“Thought you might like to have a private dinner for a change,” e spoke so confidently but there was a flash of awkwardness in his eyes that made me relax a bit.

I couldn’t help my lips curling upwards as he led me through the garden and we stopped at a fountain.

Fireflies flew about, lending to the atmosphere, but what drew me in further was the table set right beside the fountain.

“Raul-” I cut myself off as my words became stuck in my throat.

Seeing the place settings and candles laid about made my heart early skip. This was the first time I’d ever experienced something like this in my life and it brought a dazed feeling to me.

Releasing my hand he pulled out the seat and I moved to take my place. Once he sat down he began to speak again, low and assuring.

“I got the maid to bring all your favorite meals here. You can eat to your heart’s content,” he stated. I smiled in gratitude at him.

“Thank you Raul. Really,” I said.

His glances at me while we ate were telling. There had to be something he was holding back. And a part of me knew what it

was.

“Daria,” Raul spoke as soon as we were done with the main course of the meal. “Do you really have nothing to do with Alpha Caleb now?”

His question made me pause. Then I nodded emphatically

“He and I didn’t work out. He never liked me.” I spoke slowly emphasizing each word.

“That’s good to hear. Because I want you to be mine and mine alone Daria.”

I had expected this. But the blatant bluntness that came from his lips made me speechless. I wanted to speak but he interrupted me.

“I know you might be hesitant based on what might have happened in the past. Or maybe because of Alpha Caleb. But I assure you I’m serious about pursuing you,” he raised his right hand with pinky finger outstretched.

My heart sped up. He remembered.

When we were young and I would get visits from him I’d make m promise to return quickly.

He would always lift up his right pinky finger like he was signing in blood.

“And if I said I wanted to wait?” I asked him before he could say y more. “I’m no longer interested in love Raul. Maybe the past has broken me. But if I’m going to do this… if we’re going to be together then I need time to think.”

Raul fell silent and I watched his unreadable gaze shift. I didn’t know what answer he would give me, whatever happened between us I was mentally prepared for it.

“You think too much,” Raul’s exasperated sounding sigh made me look up from my half eaten flan in surprise. He gave me a smirk and chuckled like he had just seen something funny.

Then reached out and grasped one of my hands.

“Whatever decision you take Daria,” his eyes bore into mine, genler than anything else I’d ever seen. I felt my heart pounding. “You don’t have to worry too much. I will wait for your

My heart melted. He was so intentionally in his wordings.

“You’re my friend first, and I will always respect that. But I hope that one day, you’ll let me be more. I’ll take care of you in every way I can and I promise-you won’t regret choosing me.”

A smile formed on my face.

Raul had exposed a part of himself I never expected to see. Careful with his words, honest and very intentional.

He came to where I sat, helping me out of my chair and we walked back to the house, heading to my bedroom.

As we passed the hallway adjacent to his bedroom I noticed a shadow at the corner glaring at us with gleaming eyes.

Caleb.

My breath hitched as our eyes met. His gaze flickered to our hands and without thinking I tightened my grasp on Raul’s hand as we passed.

Let Caleb see it. I’d moved on from him.

I could still feel his gaze boring holes in my back but I didn’t turn. I remained unnervingly quiet while Raul led me to my bedroom with a comfortable air.

“Thank you for tonight Raul,” I said to him earnestly.

He chuckled and leaned in. Before I knew what was going on I felt a kiss against my forehead. His lips were warm and tingles ran down my spine in such a manner that I couldn’t shake.

Then Raul surprised me again by bringing up my hand which had remained clasped in his for a kiss. He pressed his lips against my knuckles. I didn’t dare stop him. I was fused to the spot burning from embarrassment and something else I didn’t want to think about just then.

When Raul finally whispered the word, “Goodnight,” his tone was more than warm. It was full of raw desire.

I swallowed heavily and watched as Raul disappeared round the corner before I entered my bedroom. Once I did I moved to shut the door only to be pushed back as a violent force hit me. The door was held open by a fuming Caleb.

He pinned me to the wall, as his eyes held more than darkness; the anger in that gaze of his made me shiver uncontrollably

“Alpha Caleb. What is the meaning of this?”

His gaze flickered from my eyes to my lips, his expression softeng, “Why were you with him?” He asked, his voice low and husky.

I swallowed hard, as I felt a shiver run down my spine. “Kindly sp back, you’re too close.”

He didn’t

Instead he brought his hands around my waist. “Not until you answer my question. Daria What were you doing with him?!”
