Something foreign sank into me as I watched. Daria’s frame was intertwined with that of another person. From this angle I couldn’t tell who it was, yet anger swelled in me at the sight.

Who the hell was she with?

As she separated from the person, I could finally see more and relaxed a fraction. It wasn’t a man but another woman, a maid to be exact.

The blonde haired maid seemed to be crying, although the distance made it difficult to hear I could still hear some of their words.

“How did you get here? I thought it was just my imagination when I heard the rumors but-”

“It’s okay Sabrina, it’s really me.” I heard Daria say.

“Sabrina,” I murmured to myself, narrowing my eyes at the scene. Now it finally clicked. I vaguely recognized her as Daria’s former maid and personal attendant from the period I’d interrogated her.

Their closeness sparked irritation in me, but my curiosity was more.

“Luna, I missed you so much. Ever since you left, things hadn’t been the same. I wished I could have-”

“I’m sorry Sabrina, you had to stay here alone for me. Also there’s no need to call me Luna. It’s just Daria now. I can’t thank you enough for that night. Even though I won’t stay for long, I’m happy to see you. We don’t need to talk about anything else for now.”

In the middle of the lone hallway they hugged again. Something bitter lanced through me at lookin at them. Seeing her interact so freely and smiling happily with that maid when she barely spared me a glance made anger and envy swell.

Yet as I replayed their words, something strange caught my attention. Daria spoke about never thanking her. The way they spoke so familiarly without once mentioning the distance was top suspicious to not ignore.

When I was interrogating for his whereabouts none had shown any signs of knowing. It had been Sabrina herself who had reported her absence as her personal maid so it wasn’t questioned, yet now neither of them looked alarmed about her absence. Could she have helped her leave the pack?

Perhaps I had made a huge mistake in overlooking her.

A different burst of rage filled me at the thought. Turning away moved furiously towards my study, shutting the door behind me to pace.

If she knew anything about Daria’s whereabouts and chose to hide it, it meant I could have found her sooner. More than that, if she’d helped her in any way to escape, it meant she’d also knew why.

Rage boiled inside me at the thought. Daria must have heard how I was searching for her. Was she mocking me then? Did she consider it payback for the way I’d treated her in the past?

I had to get to the bottom of this. And I was going to start with that maid.

My thoughts were cut off by a knock on the door. I turned just in time to see the door open.

“Caleb, I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” Felicia smiled. Dissed in a deep red plunging dress, I knew her agenda. Once upon a time I would have taken her up on her offer, but now with seeing Daria again, I felt nothing.

“What are you doing here?” I asked in a neutral tone as she saunered and swayed into the room seductively.

“I came to see you of course.” she smiled and I fought the urge cast her away easily. She had been my lover for the past few years and my longest mistress, but after several years my apetite for anything like that had waned. Especially when nothing could change the one wedding night I’d spent away.

I had given many kinds of not being interested, yet she still persisted to the point that it was becoming exhausting.

As she reached for my shoulder I pushed her away.

“Felicia,” my tone was measured and warning.

“Stop. Why haven’t you been coming over? I just want to have you once more. You were always the best at making me shut up-”

I cut her off by pushing her away, this time not as gently.

“I’ve told you to stop Felicia.”

The tension grew with the silence as we stared at each other for moment before her face drew into a sneer.

“It’s that bitch Daria’s fault isn’t it?”

Her words struck a nerve in me as she laughed,

“I should have known. That princess slut ruins everything,”

“Careful with your next words Felicia,” I warned harshly, anger growing in me but she laughed.

“It’s true isn’t it?” She scoffed petulantly.

“I’ve been seeing the changes in you since she disappeared Caleb Every month on the anniversary you start acting moody. You refused to let anyone say her name yet you kept on searching for her. Don’t you remember who she is? Who her father is?” she asked.

My jaw tightened at the reminder. The implications.

“I’ve been by your side for a long time and she’s nothing to you,et you haven’t made me your Luna or wife. And now that she’s back it’s even worse. Do you suddenly like her? Are you going to give me up for that bitch?”

“Felicia!” I roared, silencing her completely.

My wolf growled in anger at the audacity. I barely held back mynger from her words, watching her flinch back. With a sigh I shook my head.
