Chapter 51
Daria’s POV
The letter gave me chills.
Each word had been specifically written to give me a sense of paranoia.
I glanced around myself again and my eyes once again settled of the window.

My arm was tugged gently by my best friend and she had her brows knitted together and lips pursed. Her eyes spoke volumes, the concern aimed at me.
I forced a sly smile on my face, “I’m fine Brina. I just need to ignore this and I’ll be okay,” I told her even though every bone in my body couldn’t ignore the note.
She looked disbelieving of my words as well and I sighed as she shook her head at me.
“You don’t need to pretend to me Daria. I know you. Trust me everything will be fine. When Alpha Caleb comes in then I’ll have Jake inform him about this. You’ll be fine and your safety won’t be compromised.”
But despite her assurances the questions and doubts still arose.
What if someone had truly been watching?
What if I was the target of something I couldn’t even imagine. What if someone was going to make their move when I least expected it.
I shivered even though the afternoon was pretty sunny and had lack of breezes passing through. Everywhere now looked suspicious. Almost as if the shadows lurking were listening to my very thoughts.
“I don’t know if that will make everything go away,” I murmured under my breath more to myself than to anyone else. She caught it and her eyes grew deeper with worry and anxiousness as she stared at me.
“Okay. But you can’t dwell on it Daria,” Sabrina’s eyes flickered away from mine deeply in thought and after what felt like a full minute her eyes lit up spectacularly.
“Come on. There’s a cabin in the forest. It’s got a treehouse and everything. I think you haven’t been there before. You need some fresh air,” She stood looking determined.
My breath caught and I shook my head emphatically.
There was a lot that could go wrong with that idea.
“I’d rather stay inside thank you,” I replied and sat back down on the edge of the bed. She looked exasperated and folded her arms over her chest while tapping her foot impatiently. She was the very picture of the word annoyed.
“Didn’t you just tell me that you didn’t want to be kicked indoor” She demanded. “Why are you backing down now that I’m giving you a chance?

“You’re actually right. I guess I don’t want to see you looking sod. Maybe that’s why I’m being a little careless,” she admitted. “If I have to be honest I don’t know what I would do without you Daria. I’m having a bit of a rough time actually.”

Suddenly a memory came to me unbidden.
The autumn chill had seeped into my bones and I bowed my held as sobs threatened to break free from my throat. My body was sore but I stayed kneeling at the entrance kf the meeting hall. My hair was dilated over my back and covered my face from the sight of onlookers.
