Caleb’s POV

I was not in a good mood.

I had left the mansion so early in the morning that the only thing to greet me were the background sounds of crickets and some guards changing shifts for the dawn. Jacob had been informed duly of my absence that day and I had left the pack for him to run temporarily while I was out.

Why?

Because I needed answers most of all.

I surveyed the area of the border gates and frowned deeply at the dents in the metal, and the charred parts of the ground next to the gate.

“Commander. Explain why you haven’t given me a report on this up until now,” I growled at the commander of the eastern border gate. He paled and fell to his knees with his neck bowed lowly.

“Alpha it’s not that we didn’t want to give you a report. In fact we have tried to reach out to you in the past. But there was no response regarding this. And we decided to handle the investigation privately until we could pinpoint who were the culprits before we came to you again,” the commander said all that in a rush that I had to admire for his ability to go so long without breathing.

But his words gave me pause. Had there been a report regarding the attacks at the eastern border? Had I somehow ignored them?

The thought ate me up from the inside but no matter how much I searched my memories I couldn’t find any instance of the reports. And to make matters worse the eastern borders were the weakest.

My suspicions rose and I quelled it in favour of gesturing for the commander to rise. It was late in the afternoon and I had just arrived here after visiting the other three border gates.

The others were at peak performance even with the instances of rogues attacking us.

But the eastern gate was a worrying sight.

Enough that I wondered how we had missed such a weak point so much.

The Wisteria Pack wasn’t powerful for nothing.

We prided ourselves on our strong defenses as much as our offensive strategies.

This was strange.

“Charles,” I called out and one of the sentries of the elders who had come with me stood at attention and bowed to me. “Send word to the patrol guards to increase their patrols around the eastern border. While that’s being done the repairs will commence shortly We need to strengthen our pack before it’s late”

“Yes alpha It will be done Charles bowed again and turned to leave on his mission back to the pack.

The commander, though with sweat on his brow bowest in grade with his hands claspesh

“Thank you Alpha Calch We will keep watch and stand guard aong as you need us to

“Make sure that you do keep an eye out for any range viitor at wish to come, Fuhl hun while wipembering the spes who turned out to be malls in my very ten mamie

If the rogues could do such a thing then they could use weak looking members to infiltrate the pack again.

That would happen only over my dead body.

I was about to ruminate more on the ideas of who was behind the rogues when the commander cleared his throat and caught my attention once again.

“Alpha,” the commander paused nervously and didn’t say anything more for a couple of moments. My patience ran out as I was exhausted and needed a fucking bath.

“Whatever you have to say, make it quick.” My tone was firm and cold.

“You see, about the visitors at the border… There may have been a strange visitor two nights back. He arrived late at night.”

My head whipped back in alarm.

“What does he look like?”

“He claimed to be a member of the Red Vale Pack. He says he go separated from his people and needed to stay for a few days. Since we’re allied with the Red Vale pack, we let him in but had someone take him to see you.”

“That never fucking happened. I have not seen such a person.”

My voice was gravelly and full of danger.

My suspicions were rising.

The commander stilled and looked even paler.

“That cannot be possible Alpha Caleb. We… we sent one of our men with him two nights ago.”

Too many questions and too many pieces of the puzzle were sloping themselves together. Something was happening that I didn’t like.

“Has the man among your ranks in question returned?” I demanded to know while folding my arms across my chest.

The silence was telling.

And I knew that something was truly wrong.

“Guards,” I called and the few who had come with me immediately appeared like they spawned from thin air. They uniformly bowed and waited for my command. The air was electric and thick with tension. “Find this strange outsider and have them brought to me immediately. You have 24 hours. If after then you do not find this man, it will be all your heads

The men yelled in unison, “Yes Alpha!”

After giving out the orders to find the man I left the commanded after assigning some new patrol guards to keep watch. We

had to be careful

I cursed several times in my head as I thought about the situation at hand Why was the name of the Red Vale Pack coming up now?

My thoughts moved to the strange and abrupt arrival of Alphaston He wasn’t the type to simply arrive for no reason. he arrugarst as he was he never jashed his luck when it came to Wisteria Pack He had long learn his lessons about that

But now the rogues were Horming again And Alpha Kingston lenly comes around but reason in particular

And then this sange

I didn’t know why. But my instincts never lied. And something about it told me that it was a trap.

I growled to myself and set off for the pack.

Fine, I thought firmly.

Alpha Kingston wanted to see me. Then I would oblige him. And if he was one of those behind the rogue attacks… then there would be hell for him and his Red Vale Pack to pay.

As soon as I arrived I called one of the maids who bowed as shepproached me.

“Let our esteemed guest know that he will be joining me for diner. We have much to discuss.”

The maid bowed and rushed down the hallway to carry out her orders.

After that I strode into my bedroom and took off my clothes. After rushing back to the pack a layer of sweat had practically moulded my shirt to my body.

I stripped myself and walked into the large shower. Turning off the cold water at first I let the water wash away most of the dirt I had left on my skin. Then I turned the water scalding hot so much that it felt like it would burn me.

As I scrubbed my body I thought of my strategy. I intended to make Alpha Kingston confess or lose his cool enough to let something slip through the cracks. He was a proud man. So even the smallest dig at his abilities would lead to an uproar from him.

But this time I would be expecting it. I would use it to my advantage.

Smirking to myself I exited the bathroom with steamy fog rolling out from behind me.

What I didn’t expect was for my eyes to meet a pair of alarmed green eyes.

“Alpha- uh,” Daria spluttered as her cheeks turned red. She noticed I was naked and swiftly turned around while covering her face with her palms.

It would have been a hilarious thing if I had expected it. But now the awkwardness in the room had gotten worse as Daria’s shoulders were tense and she began to stammer out words.
