Chapter 75

Caleb’s POV

Looking down at Daria’s unconscious form in my arms, I had a eavy feeling stir in my heart.

The wind rustled the trees, and I straightened. It was time to return home. When she woke up, I would do whatever it took to make sure she would accept me over again.

Even if I had to give up everything, even if I had to make a public apology… I would do it. Whatever it takes, she would be mine again.

Making that vow solemnly in my heart, I looked up at the moon suddenly revealed from under the cover of the dark clouds. Now it felt like the Moon Goddess was looking down on me, making her judgement known.

I returned to the mansion, my clothes still damp from the rain. My constitution was strong, but I was still mortal, and the cold and rain had battered my body. I felt the chill in my bones. et I stood strong, making sure my unaffected mask was put

Sabrina stood anxiously pacing at my front porch, and my best friend JAcob could only watch her in unspoken but clearly visible concern. The guess at the party must have dispersed by now. I noticed Eric Nolan and Killian also waiting by the corner, looking dark and brooding. As soon as they all noticed me, Sabrina didn’t waste a moment and rushed forward as she saw me holding daria bridal style in my arms.

“What happened? How is she? Where did you find her?” As usual Jacob’s mate did not fail to batter me with her typical relentless questions, breathless as she was.

“She’s fine,” I looked down again at Daria’s mud-stained dress, the dried streaks of tears on her pale cheeks.

Saying she was fine was truly an overstatement, I thought. But what other words could I use?

Eric stormed forward with his brows pinched and his eyes glaring at me stonily.

“Is this what you meant by taking care of her, Alpha Caleb? How do I trust you to protect her?”

Smoothly, before I could muster up the energy to respond, Killian stepped forward and placed a gentle hand on his marge’s shoulder. Eric stilled, his sudden burst of anger softened a little, hough body was still tense.

“I’m sure all the questions and discussions can wait until after they’re inside,” Killian said to Eric. Eric huffed and stubbornly still glanced at me with anger, but didn’t say any other word.

Tilting my head in thanks at Killian, I moved quickly through the foyer and went to Daria’s bedroom. Her maid appeared quickly as I placed gently on a blanket the maid laid out upon seing her mistress’ state.

“Get her cleaned up and dressed,” I ordered the maid, who bowel and rushed to get some hot water.

Only a second alone with her once more, I pressed my hand against her open palm.

“This will be the last time I hurt you ever again, love.” I whispere

I was exhausted, leaving the bedroom. But my work wasn’t close done for tonight I still had an Elder and his family member to deal with.

Thinking of how to handle Elder Talen and Felicia, my mind warm. If I had been merciful before, then it ended here

I didn’t bother heading to my bedroom for a quick change of clothes, the path to the cells was quick and quiet, and only the guards on duty saw me enter. As they bowed 1 walked past them without a word and headed straight for the noassest part of the dungeon.

Felicia’s whimpers and curses still rang as cleanly as they had before

That bitch.” She seethed, unwittingly making my chest burn with rage. Her entitlement was just disgusting. “How could Caleb do this to me?! Because of that lowly scum!”

Then she scoffed, unaware that I was listening

“And who the fuck cares about some dead baby anyway? Stupid woman! If she can’t keep a pregnancy then what the hell does that have to do with me?!”

A growl left my lips and I appeared from the darkened corner swiftly, grabbing the bars in rage. It shook under my grip, but it wasn’t going to give way. It was reinforced with an aconitium-derived alloy that made it impossible for most werewolves to break through

Felicia suddenly rushed to her feet, her face pale and eyes wide and her lips were parted as she was about to let out an ear- piercing shriek, but I warned.

“Do that, and I’ll rip out your fucking tongue and feed it to the dogs!”

Elder Talen choked out a stuttered greeting. his robes looking wrinkled in such a short amount of time. He had only been in the cells for less than two hours but his posture made him appear weak and exhausted. I bared my teeth at him and he lowered his head, shame covering his pale and wrinkled face. Suddenly he looked even far older than his years.

“Eldr Talen.” I didn’t bother giving them a chance to speak. “Now is the time for your judgment. Your past actions have shown me all I need to know. And you will pay for them.”

Elder talen swallowed heavily and kept his head bowed low.

“Alpha.” he said in a low murmur. “Please. Have mercy. I regret my actions. I should not have imposed my desires so much on you. And for Lady Daria… I humbly apologise. I am willing to make an apology directly to her as well if need be-!”

“Don’t do that!” Felicia looked furious, so much that her face had turned completely red.

“You know that she doesn’t deserve it, grand-uncle! We have nothing to apologize for.”

“And as for you. Felicia…” I grinned predatorially, showing my long canines. She swallowed and fell silent again. momentarily stunned by my hostility.

“Banishment.”

“NO!”

She immediately clung to the bars as the guards rushed in on my command and moved to take her out.

“You can’t do this to me! Over some accusations by that low maid!”

“If you think me so fickle, then you do not understand that actions have consequences. Or have you forgotten why the fuck you were in confinement in the first place?”

Reminding her of the MURDER she had committed made her pale and she vigorously shook her head.

“It’s been sorted out-” She refused.

“Add that to the acts you have committed against MY mate on several occasions for the past month! You should get your fucking head checked if you think I would let such a disgraceful woman in my presence, much less my pack!”

Her eyes bulged, wild emotions displayed in them as she darted at me and then at Elder Talen who fell to his knees.

“You can’t banish me! I’m PREGNANT!”

And that made me freeze for a slight second. Then I gave a cold humorless chuckle.

Pregnant?

“What games are you trying to fucking play again? Lies? Again?” asked, shaking my head at her.

“I’m not lying! Caleb baby, it’s yours! I’m pregnant with your chil!” she insisted, her crazy words making even the guards glance uncertainly at me.

Her insistence meanwhile made me frown.

Was that true?

Elder Talen looked surprised to hear of this news as well but he perked up and glanced at me as if he’d found a lifeline to cling onto.

“Alpha Caleb, if Lady Felicia is pregnant, then you cannot cast her aside. The birth of your heir is more important than any grudge you may hold against us.”

Suddenly there was a dark feeling in my chest that threatened to take over.

Horror, mixed with fear and anger.

She couldn’t be pregnant-!

Not now!

“Callum,” I called the guard in charge of tonight’s watch. “Send for the pack doctor. Keep this secret!”

“Under my oath, Alpha,” He bowed solemnly and quickly rushed with his partner to find the pack doctor in the clinic.

I turned to Felicia who slumped to the ground in relief, her body heaving with breaths and her face still flushed.

“If I find out you’re lying, I will make sure you meet a fate worse than death,” I said calmly.

All I had to do was wait.

I clenched my hands into fists, thinking furiously. But what if it was true?

When the pack doctor arrived, I could hardly wait to hand out the orders. The pack doctor gazed uncertainly from myself to Felicia with a slight frown before nodding and moving to perform the pregnancy test as ordered. It was a blood test, which meant that it was the most accurate test ever to determine if her claims were true.

I waited outside the private room I had granted in the basement for the pack doctor to conclude his investigation.

My hands shook; What if she was truly pennant?

It had only been a few hours since I learned of my first child’s existence… my first child’s death due to my own negligence and abuse of my mate.

What would happen if Felicia was pregnant with my child? Sure I couldn’t harm her-
