Caleb’s POV

Our desires were sated.

My tongue lapped around her neck, over the bites I had left. The reddened marks stood out to me even with the dark room. The curtains and blinds had been both shut, with not one bit of light streaming in.

Well, it wasn’t like light COULD stream in. It was already well past daytime.

The entire afternoon had been nothing short of thrilling. And that too was an understatement.

We had done it. All over my bedroom. Sex was truly exciting, but fucking HER was like entering a different world.

Past me was truly a fool, I would always say that over and over again.

Back then I had been too busy with appearances, duty and pissing off Alpha Kingston to properly look at my mate and appreciate the Goddess Given beauty that she was. How much she complemented me. She was not perfect, but in my eyes, there was no one closer to that impossible standard than she.

My body was limp, my muscles entirely relaxed, and sweat all over our bodies. Our legs were entangled in the sheets and with each other, that I didn’t feel the urge to move anytime soon.

What I wanted was to keep her close, always beside me, no exceptions.

“Hmmm…” Daria moaned softly as I laid my mouth atop the skin of her collarbone and sucked. Half a second later, I felt fingers softly caressing my hair, before resting on my neck. “Caleb, please…”

I couldn’t help it; hearing her say my name like that was nothing short of a reminder of how she had cried for me each and every time that she climaxed as I pounded into her wet heat, or how her walls tightened over my cock each time, clenched and milking me for all I was worth as I rose my own orgasms out inside her.

“Fuck,” I murmured, bringing up my head and softly kissing her lips. “I love it when you say my name like that.”

She giggled as I pressed another kiss onto her forehead, then her cheeks, one after the other.

“I’ll be sore all over tomorrow,” Daria complained, sighing as we laid together side by side.

“My apologies,” I said without really meaning it. In the dim room, there was only one lamp on, and my triumphant smirk couldn’t be seen by most. “I’ll give you a massage.”

“Pervert,” My beloved huffed like I had just sworn to give her the moon. “You’re only saying that as an excuse.”

“It’s a good excuse, isn’t it Love?”

“By the Goddess,” she scoffed, but I knew from the tone of her voice that she was smiling. “Eric’s going to kill me if he finds out I’ve not rested.”

I refrained from making things worse by telling her that her dear cousin already probably figured it out by the sounds from this afternoon. It wasn’t like we were trying to be discreet, anyway. I half-expected to see a disapproving look on Eric Nolan’s face the next time we met. Defiling his cousin? No way he would let that slide.

Holding back my amusement I felt Daria’s breathing slow down. The room became as quiet as the outside was. It was already late, and I too felt the tiredness of the day come upon me.

With her in my arms, I drifted off to sleep and let it take me wherever it would.

“Alpha Caleb,” I instantly awoke as I heard a voice call out to me.

Raising my head I stared into the darkness. Faintly I saw the clock that showed it was barely 5am. Not even dawn yet. What had happened?

Glancing at the door I instantly noticed that someone was right outside. The shadows of their feet were visible. Silently, I carefully untangled myself from Daria and moved to put on pajama pants before opening the door.

“What is it?” I saw it was one of the patrol guards, his uniform disheveled and his eyes full of terror.

He bowed before it all came spilling out.

“Rogues. At the eastern border. Our men are being attacked, Alpha,” The man gruffly reported in a rish.

The last traces of sleep had suddenly left me and I heard a small

gasp

behind me.

Daria was awake.

“One moment,” I told the guard before calmly shutting the door in his face.

I began the task of dressing up, picking out my pants and shirt without glancing at her.

My annoyance and frustration must have been evident, because I felt a hand on my shoulder. I stilled, briefly

“It’s fine. Go,” Daria murmured, her words a little exhausted. “I know you’re upset about this turn of events.”

“I’ll be fine,” I said to her, my tension bleeding out. How could I respond to my mate with anything but

softness?

I leaned in and pressed a kiss to her lips. She hummed softly to herself, before releasing me.

I made my way out of the house with the patrol guard and a few of my own personal guards in tow.

With speed we rushed to the eastern border. It usually took 30 minutes to get there, but with my current breakneck pace, it was barely 10 minutes before we got there.

It was at the heat of the fight.

Right at the middle.

I caught sight of a rogue wolf about to attack one of my warriors and instantly I shifted, my claws extending. My shirt tore apart and I jumped at the rogue, beheading it immediately.

In the fray many were injured but my arrival had turned the tide. Soon, we had subdued them. I shifted back to my human form as we caught a few of the rogues that had run. They were chained in aconitum alloy chains, and would be taken to prison.

Soon, it was over.

The rogues were defeated, with our might.

But my mind wasn’t settled. As we began clearing up and assessing the damage, I stood shirtless and folded my arms, staring out into the horizon.

The sun had risen.

Suddenly a small shriek pierced the air. I raised my head, frowning.

What was that? It was decidedly a female voice. My instincts led me, and I trailed towards the direction the voice had come from, followed warily by two of my men.

The sounds of whimpers then came and I pushed aside a low branch of leaves to see-

My brows furrowed as I regarded the whimpering woman in front of me. Her eyes glossy with t-unshed tears, curled up into a fetal position. She wore a cream-coloured dress but it was stained at the men and other spots with dirt.

She looked familiar.

“Who are you?” I demanded. Her head snapped up and her eyes met mine, widening a fraction as she began

to stammer.

“C-Caleb?” her voice came out brokenly.
