Chapter 85
Daria’s POV

As soon as Caleb left in a hurry, I returned to bed, only to wake up hours later, my face buried in the sheets and feeling well-rested.
I decided it was time for me to get ready for the day. While I got dressed and took my bath early in the morning, I thought of Sabrina. Due to my training yesterday with Eric and my… time with Caleb (I still couldn’t help but think over what went on the entire day before with my mate breathlessly), I had not seen her. Now was an opportunity for rest, like Eric had said.
With that, I had the maid send a message to inform Eric of where I was going, and left to jacob’s family’s
home.
The guards let me in and I was swiftly directed to Sabrina’s room.
“Daria,” Sabrina sounded a little out of breath as stepped into her bedroom. And with good reason, I thought to myself. The bedroom was less of just a bedroom and more like a suite, split into two rooms that were linked together. Currently we were in the antechamber, which had a few shelves filled with books and knickknacks, a desk and chair, as well as a couch and a lovesweat. The interior decoration was tastefully done, with succulents, a lovely scented candle, and even a few throw pillows in pops of color. The sunlight streamed in from the large French doors that opened out onto the balcony.
I took a minute to glance around, admiring the entire view, before remarking, “You look busy, Brina.”
My best friend was in fact terribly busy. Busy with discussing with the tailor, that is. Sabrina was stripped down to undergarments, except this time, she also wore a fancy corset, along with tights and heels.
“We’re trying to figure out what I should wear for the engagement party.” Sabrina said. Her voice was a little muffled as she was in the middle of putting on another dress over her head. “Then after, I have to go over the wedding dress design again. Then meet with the event planner for the wedding décor and catering. Oh, it’s all too much, Daria. Everything’s moving quickly!”
She sounded panicked, and to her benefit she didn’t look it. I sighed with a fond smile and helped the tailor zip up the evening gown. It was a gold number, and I liked the fabric for the way it shimmered as if from the inside out. The silk threads were soft to the touch and I hummed, turning to the tailor with expert ease.
“This fabric, but another cut. The skirt is too long and too wide. Something fitted, maybe?” I spoke to the older and modestly-dressed woman. She wore a pair of spectacles that were balanced perfectly on her thin
nose.
“Hmm… you might be right, Lady Daria. I think the skirt needs adjustment,” The tailor replied.
Sabrina cast me a grateful look and didn’t say anything. But her eyes lit up with the faint recognition of my experience in dealing with various events like, say, a wedding.
I faintly remembered my wedding to Caleb. Upon arriving at the Wisteria Pack, I had barely been given a warm welcome, and was sequestered in my bedroom until the tailor was brought to me. That time I hadn’t had the heart to refuse the opinions of others and had allowed my own dress to be chosen for me. It wasn’t a terrible one, but I rather felt compelled to like it. Back then I had imagined, dreamed for a redo.

Hope sprung up in my chest as I wondered what would be my fture with Caleb. Maybe when everything was sorted out and we had nothing to fear from Alpha Kingston… we would have another ceremony?
The rest of the hour ended up being a blur with me helping Sabrina choose the cut and style of her engagement dress, the jewelry she would wear – she had settled on an emerald cut pendant affixed on a gold chain, with matching earrings, a family heirloom that was gifted to her by her mate himself. Then once the tailor had left with promise of returning the next day to discuss the wedding dress details, Sabrina turned to me with a look, about to speak. I cut her off with a small smile.
“No need to thank me. Just ask for help anytime. You don’t have to handle everything alone, Brina,” I said, and she smiled at me like the most adorable puppy.
In less than a minute, we were seated on the balcony of the first floor, feeling the warm afternoon sun and drinking cool, utterly refreshing lemonade while eating several finger foods.
“So you and Alpha Caleb…”
I flushed; she must have known before I even set foot in her home.
I quietly nodded, and she smirked slightly.
“So I win. Jacob has to pay me now,” she remarked and my head whipped to look at her, my lips parted with
shock.
“You- What?” I processed what she said and I couldn’t help my voice rising. “You guys bet on us?!”
“What do you mean, of course we did,” she shrugged. “Once I got over my anger for Alpha Caleb… Well, most of it anyway… I saw how much you still loved him. Even when you were in pain because of what he did to you, you never stopped loving him. Jake and I figured it was just a matter of time, so we placed bets on when you two would finally get together.”
My mind went through a series of emotions: surprise, shock, a brief anger that passed quickly and shifted into
acceptance.
“So you already knew,” I sighed to myself, pressing my palm against my forehead. My face felt warmer now and I knew it wasn’t because of the sun. “Brina, I don’t know what to say.”
What COULD I say? I had spent years hating Caleb, being unable to forgive him. But little did I know that I had also been unable to stop thinking about him, unable to stop wondering why he could never pick me… Now that he truly had, I had fallen deeply again.
“As long as you’re happy, Daria,” Sabrina patted my shoulder gently and pulled me out of the mire of my racing thoughts. Her eyes twinkled with a certain amusement and fondness. “As long as he makes an effort, I believe you can move forward with him.”
That assurance was more important to me than I had expected. I relaxed a little, feeling something ease within me just a little.
Now, I thought to myself, if only I could get Eric to see the same thing Sabrina did.
It was early in the afternoon, when Sabrina and I were on our way back to Caleb’s mansion, that I heard a warrior say, “The Alpha has returned!”

My heart skipped a beat and I turned in the direction of the sound, my lips pursing as I tried to see him.
Sabrina took one look at me and snickered.
“You’re really whipped over him. Daria.” She looked on the verge of bursting into raucous laughter, and I playfully slapped her shoulder, rolling my eyes at her.
“Oh, like you don’t wait for Jacob every night I shot back.
