Cheated Once Cherished Forever: The Billionaire's Bride novel Chapter 138

An ugly look crept onto Alexander's face, but there was nothing he could do. He couldn't sit there in his dirty clothes, so he followed Jessie out to change.

Isabella frowned from her seat across from him. If she wasn't mistaken, Jessie had done it on purpose!

Theodore noticed her tense up and touched the back of her hand with his finger. He asked in a low voice, "What's wrong?"

She returned to her senses and looked at him, saying softly, "It's nothing."

She had seen it clearly—Jessie's hand had been steady while serving the food, but that had changed the moment she had gotten to Alexander. She'd suddenly "lost" her grip, and the soup ladle had tipped in a manner that was way too deliberate.

Theodore's gaze darkened, and he glanced at the door. Instead of pressing for answers, he patted Isabella's hand gently. "What do you want to eat? I'll get it for you."

The atmosphere in the room was barely affected by the accident. Stanley and Theodore hammered out the details for the project while Priscilla spoke to Natalie. She occasionally glanced at the door, looking curious.

This dinner had started with the intention of calling off the engagement, yet things were so amicable that it was almost as if they were discussing the engagement.

Meanwhile, in a room at the end of the corridor, Alexander took off his dirtied blazer and tossed it onto the couch. His expression was so icy that it was scary.

Jessie stood to one side with her head lowered and her hands twisting her apron. Her voice was deliberately laced with panic as she said, "I swear I didn't mean to do it, sir. Here are the clean clothes I got for—"

Alexander cut her off with a snort and looked at her sharply. "Jessie Hall, right?"

Her head snapped up, and she stared at him in astonishment. He remembered her name?

He sneered with mockery, "You're Ms. Moore's 'good friend.' Of course, I remember you."

He emphasized "good friend", and his sarcasm was obvious. Sure enough, he added, "Oh, that was in the past. Now, I don't think you two are even friends anymore."

Jessie turned ashen. She stumbled back and said shakily, "Yes, but I… Mr. Sinclair, I was forced to…"

He propped himself up and tried to get to his feet, but his limbs were as heavy as if they had turned to lead. His consciousness turned hazy.

He squinted at Jessie and rasped, "What… did you do to my clothes?"

Her panic had long since disappeared and was replaced by a twisted smugness. She slowly straightened up, wiped her tears, and smirked. "Nothing. I just wanted to help you take a good nap."

She approached the couch and looked imperiously at Alexander, who was sprawled there and unable to move. Her eyes flashed sinisterly as she said, "I can tell that you like Isabella, Mr. Sinclair. If that's the case… let me give you a hand with that!"

Alexander's vision started to swim. He wanted to grab his phone to call someone for help, but he didn't even have the strength to lift a finger.

"What… are you up to?" he forced through gritted teeth.

"What am I up to? You'll find out soon enough." Jessie laughed.
