Isabella clenched her fists, fighting the urge to barge in and confront these men. Yet, their harsh words had already made their way to her ears.
She closed her eyes, and the world seemed to be spinning. She couldn't understand why these men, who had barely even spoken a word to her, harbored so much malice toward her.
Isabella forced herself to stay calm, thinking they would soon tire of it. But the more they talked, the more excited they became.
Finally, she was unable to hold back any longer and walked straight into the pantry.
The few men chatting inside froze mid-laughter, staring at her in shock. They exchanged uneasy glances, none of them daring to speak.
Though Isabella didn't have the authority to fire them, as Alexander's secretary, a few words from her could make their lives very unpleasant.
Her gaze swept across the group before finally settling on Kenneth.
Kenneth's expression tightened with anxiety. "I'm sorry, Isabella. I tried to explain, but they wouldn't listen! They have no idea that you're..."
He caught himself mid-sentence. Isabella and Theodore's marriage had not been made public. In such circles, marriages often involved various interests and considerations. If it wasn't time to go public yet, saying anything now might do more harm than good..
"Kenneth, step aside."
Isabella signaled him to move aside, and he obediently obeyed.
While the others looked on in confusion, they noticed a faint, mocking smile appear at the corner of her mouth. Without a word, she took out her phone, turned on the camera, and pointed it at them.
The men who, just moments ago, had been full of bravado and couldn't wait to condemn Isabella, now panicked. They threw their hands up to cover their faces in front of her camera.
"Ms. Moore! What are you doing?"
Isabella's voice was soft but cold. "Could you please repeat what you just said? So that I can have it as evidence."
They fumbled and dodged, unwilling to face the camera. They looked to Kenneth for help. "Kenny, we didn't mean any harm. We were just trying to stand up for you!"
Kenneth felt awkward. "Isabella, they meant it as a joke. Don't take it to heart. You know—"
"Ms. Moore, it's possible that Kenneth made up these things to hurt you because he couldn't win your love!"
Kenneth's eyes widened in disbelief. He never imagined that they could be so shameless.
Isabella was also left speechless. "You were the ones spewing nonsense, and now, you're blaming him?"
At this moment, a man stepped forward, glaring at her with disdain.
"Don't you think your words are a bit harsh? You don't really think that just a couple of sentences can get us in trouble, right? Even if you wanted to call the police, we were just chatting casually. It's not like we mentioned you by name."
A few others saw the opportunity and chimed in, "Exactly, it's not like we mentioned your name. You can't just blame us without any reason, right?"
At that moment, a cold voice interrupted, "Do I even need a reason to fire you guys?"
Everyone instinctively turned their heads, and when they saw the person standing at the door, their expressions changed dramatically. They all looked down in fear.
