Cheated Once Cherished Forever: The Billionaire's Bride novel Chapter 183

Isabella sent Emma off and tried calling Theodore, but nobody picked up after two tries.

She was about to call again when her phone rang. It was Alexander who called.

Isabella hesitated for a moment before answering. When the call went through, she heard nothing.

She asked, "Hello? Alexander… Is everything okay?"

Still, there was nothing but silence. Just as she was about to hang up, Alexander finally spoke.

"Isabella..."

His voice was tired, worn out.

"What's wrong? Did something happen at the company?" Isabella asked, concerned. She didn't know when she could be discharged.

"No... I just wanted... to hear your voice," Alexander said, his tone heavy with weariness.

Isabella frowned, not sure what to say.

Alexander didn't expect a reply. He simply continued, "Uncle Theodore has someone watching over you at the hospital. I can't come to see you. How's your injury?"

Isabella didn't know that Theodore had people watching over her.

"It's getting better."

Alexander asked, "I heard about your foster mother. Is it true that this has something to do with Uncle Theodore?"

Isabella stayed silent. She honestly didn't know.

Alexander pressed on, "You're injured because of your foster parents. Uncle Theodore doesn't hold back when it comes to people he cares about. If he was behind it, I wouldn't be surprised. But, Isabella, you're not mad at him, are you?"

Isabella's voice was barely a whisper. "I don't know..."

She couldn't even explain how she felt. Sure, she was uneasy, but how could she be mad at him? Compared to Richard and Margaret, Theodore had always treated her so much better. Could she really resent him, even if it was done in the name of love?

"Isabella, if it wasn't for Uncle Theodore, we wouldn't have broken up all those years ago!"

"Yes, we would have," Isabella said firmly. "Alexander, the real issue between us was your mother. She didn't like me and didn't respect me. Unless we had kept our relationship completely hidden, she would've found out sooner or later.

"Even now, when you're capable of standing on your own, she still wouldn't accept us. Do you really think she would've agreed back then?"

Alexander fell silent.

Isabella let out a bitter laugh. "Alexander, don't bring up our past anymore..."

She pushed the thought aside. Right now, all that mattered was how quickly Alexander had acted.

She dialed Theodore's number again. After ringing for what seemed like forever, it went unanswered.

She started to panic. Just as she was about to hang up, a woman's voice came through.

"Hello?"

The voice was familiar. Isabella frowned, a cold sense of dread creeping up on her. "Who is this? Where's the owner of this number?"

"Oh, he's in the shower."

Queenie! It had to be Queenie!

"Are you Queenie?"

Queenie laughed. "Ms. Moore, you remember me? I'm flattered. Yes, it's me. Long time no see!"

"How does Theodore's phone end up with you? Where is he? Let him take the call!"

"He can't right now. He's in the shower. If it's urgent, tell me, and I'll make sure he gets the message when he's done."
