After seeing Lydia Beaumont and her friends out, Vanessa Grant lowered her gaze.
Jocelyn Ives lowered her voice. "Boss, who exactly is Lydia?"
"Marcus Beaumont's wife," Vanessa replied.
"No wonder the police arrived so quickly after just one call from her."
Jocelyn had called the cops before, but they always took a passive approach, mediating without making arrests. She was sick and tired of being harassed by thugs like Maggie Lowell.
Maggie's brother had harassed her, and thankfully she had started recording early to capture his assault on video.
"Don't worry, Maggie and her brother won't get out of this easily," Vanessa assured her.
She had deliberately escalated the argument earlier to make Lydia make that phone call.
With Lydia stepping in, the police would undoubtedly handle the matter with strict severity.
It was the perfect opportunity to make an example out of them. Otherwise, people would really think Velvet Needle was an easy target.
She remembered facing similar thugs when she first opened the boutique. That was when she truly understood that money alone wasn't enough. Without power and backing, even if you were in the right, things would get delayed and obstructed at every turn, dragging on painfully until they fizzled out.
That was why she had gone to such great lengths to invite these wealthy socialites into her store, custom-making dresses for them, never caring about the meager profit margins. She knew better than anyone that to keep the business stable and running long-term, she couldn't rely on herself alone.
These powerful women were her strongest pillars of support. As long as they patronized the store and protected it, she wouldn't even need to lift a finger the next time someone tried to cause trouble or sling mud. Someone else would naturally stand up for her.
She was never after just a single transaction; she wanted to leverage their influence to keep her boutique safe.
Vanessa turned her gaze to Jocelyn. "We're not taking any more orders this year. Once this batch is finished, I'm giving you some time off."
"Thank you, boss!"
