Mila pulled open the mouth of the burlap sack. “Young Master, look. This is all what

Young Madam brought back today.”

Matthew glanced into the bag.

Inside were live chickens and ducks.

He froze for a beat. “Where did these come from?”

Charlotte stood up and walked to his side, lifting her injured arms in front of him again,

letting them sway right under his eyes.

“I heard people say that free-range chickens and ducks from the countryside are the most nutritious. I thought since my sister-in-law is recovering after giving birth, it’d be

great if she could eat things like this.”

“So I drove out to the countryside early this morning and got them from a farmer’s

place.”

Matthew’s expression tightened. “The countryside? From here to out there and back,

that’s at least five or six hours of driving.”

Charlotte responded, “It’s fine. I’m not doing anything anyway. Even if it’s ten-plus hours, I can do it, as long as it helps my sister-in-law build her strength back up.”

“You…” There was a clear ache of tenderness in Matthew’s eyes. “How could you be so careless? You’ve been pampered since you were little. How would you know how to do

this kind of thing? Who made you do it yourself?”

Before Charlotte could answer, he turned and said, “Mila, tell Archer to get the car. Tell him the young madam is injured. She’s going to get a tetanus shot.”

Charlotte hurried to stop him. “It’s not some huge wound. There’s not even any blood. I

don’t need any vaccine.”

“No. You have to go.”

“Really, no.” Charlotte’s voice softened. “Archer’s been tired all day. Don’t make him run

around for this.”

Matthew thought for a few seconds. “I’ll take you.”

Charlotte shook her head. “You’ve had a long day too. I don’t want you being dragged

into this either. Listen to me, okay?”

Matthew looked into those watery, autumn-clear eyes, and his heart softened for no

reason at all.

“Fine. We’ll do it your way.”

Charlotte said, “Then hurry and go rest in your room. It’s late. You’ve still got a hard day

tomorrow.”

For the first time, Matthew truly felt it-his wife could be this considerate.

And today, he really was exhausted.

The company was a disaster of nonstop problems, so busy it had him spinning.

Matthew actually listened and went back to his room.

Natalie widened her eyes, stunned.

“Charlotte! What kind of spell did you feed my brother? Why is he listening to you like

this?!”

Charlotte’s smile was full of teasing. “Because he’s my husband.”

“Humph!” Natalie’s face twisted with disdain. “Don’t think I don’t know. You and my brother have always been acting close on the surface while being distant underneath.

You haven’t even slept together in forever, and you’re still here trying to comfort

yourself.”

Charlotte’s gaze sharpened. “How would you know what happens between us? Isabella

told you?”

Natalie went speechless for a few seconds. “Of course not! I guessed!”

So obvious it was almost funny.

Charlotte couldn’t be bothered to expose her.

“You, a leftover in storage, what would you know about the fun between husband and

wife? You think we’re distant on the surface, but you have no idea how much we enjoy

it.”

“Nasty?” Charlotte smiled faintly. “Good. Nasty words are meant for people who love

making things nasty.”

Natalie got hit so hard she nearly couldn’t catch her breath.

“Charlotte! You have no shame!”

“Me? Or you?”

Charlotte’s smile dropped in an instant, her face turning cold.

“As the dignified young lady of the Russell family, you run around all day like a shrew-

no manners, no class, embarrassing yourself and everyone else.”

“I’m your sister-in-law, yet you call me by my name. People say the eldest sister-in-law

is like a mother. That means I count as half a mother to you. And this is you showing no

respect for your elders.”

“Tell me who’s the one with no shame?”

Natalie’s eyes slowly reddened.

After breathing hard for a long time, she pointed her manicured nails at Charlotte’s face.

“You… you… don’t get smug! Sooner or later, I’ll drive you out of the Russell family!”

Charlotte shrugged. “I’ll wait and see.”

Natalie stormed off, fuming.

Mila stepped forward and lowered her voice. “Young madam, she’s a little devil. You

should stay away from her. After making a scene like this today, who knows what kind

of trouble she’ll trip you up with later.”

Charlotte smiled calmly. “With her IQ, she can’t pull off anything high-level. Let her try.”

Mila sighed. “They treat you like this, and you still ran so far to bring back all these good

things. That’s really hard on you.”

Mila smiled. “Tomorrow I’ll stew them into soup for Isabella. Let her really build herself back up.”

Charlotte had already expected Natalie would go to Matthew and exaggerate, twisting the story. So before coming back, she’d thought up her counter.

Of course, she’d also been testing the waters.
