Gordon strolled over with a bright grin. “So, what kind of bad things are you two
gorgeous ladies saying about me?”
Ruby looked him up and down, taking in his head-to-toe designer casual outfit.
“Mr. Cameron, you look pretty youthful today.”
Gordon’s smile had that lazy, playboy edge. “I’m always the same wild, handsome boy.”
Ruby snorted a laugh. “You are still narcissistic as ever.”
Gordon’s gaze landed on Charlotte. “We’re this distant now? You won’t even say hi to
me?”
Charlotte smiled faintly. “Long time no see.”
Gordon dropped into the seat beside her and crossed his legs.
“I’m planning to come develop my career in Sunriver. Am I welcome?”
Charlotte said, “The people of Sunriver will definitely welcome Mr. Cameron to come
contribute to Sunriver’s GDP.”
Gordon said, “I don’t care about anyone else. I just want to know if Charlie welcomes
me.”
Ruby kicked him. “Scoot over.”
Then she sat herself right between the two of them.
“Gordon, are you trying to die? Don’t you know Charlie’s a married woman? Put away
that flirting-with-everything-that-moves habit. Keep it up and I’ll castrate you.”
“Tsk.” Gordon didn’t get angry-he laughed instead. “Even if I flirt around, it doesn’t stop
my true feelings for Charlie. Besides, what if she’s married? In my heart, there’ll always
be a place for her.”
Charlotte curled her lip and spoke seriously.
“Gordon, enough.”
Gordon froze for two seconds. “Can’t even take a joke? Boring.”

Ruby said, “Only Charlie can keep you in line.”

Gordon was the one who had started a college business with Charlotte back then.
He was a year above her, her senior.
The textbook image of a spoiled rich second-generation playboy.
But Charlotte and the others knew it clearly.
That was just the unruly side Gordon deliberately showed.
In truth, he was a legitimate investment heavyweight.
He had deep insight into the tech industry and had successfully invested in several well-
known internet companies.
Back then, Charlotte’s first startup succeeding had a lot to do with Gordon backing her.
Charlotte did admire him.
Of course, he also gave her headaches.
Back then, after Gordon saw what Charlotte was truly capable of, he’d declared-
If you were going to marry a wife, it had to be a woman like Charlotte, with both talent
and beauty.
Everyone took the playboy’s words as a joke.
No one expected that on graduation day, Gordon would confess in public, drop to one
knee, and propose.
He scared Charlotte badly.
After she calmed down, she rejected him without the slightest mercy.
Because of that, his failed proposal got teased for years.
And Charlotte would dodge him every time she saw him.
Luckily, Gordon later went to Hang Kong with friends to invest in projects, and the whole
thing slowly faded away.
She hadn’t expected to see him again. Charlotte couldn’t help feeling a little awkward.

But then she thought about it-none of them were those clueless kids anymore. It was
ancient history. Being dramatic about it now would be pointless.
So Charlotte treated Gordon like nothing more than an old friend she hadn’t seen in
years.
Once everyone arrived, the mood heated up.
Old friends rarely got to reunite. Of course people started pushing drinks.
Charlotte thought, anyway, the baby in her belly was about to be aborted. Drinking
didn’t matter.
But Gordon snatched her glass and drank for her.
After a few rounds, Gordon was already drifting.
By the time the dinner ended, he couldn’t tell east from west.
Ruby said, “What do we do? Just toss him on the street?”
Charlotte’s conscience was still there. “He got drunk because of me.”
Ruby said, “Send him to a hotel?”
Charlotte was about to speak when she suddenly saw a familiar car parked by the curb.
The door opened. Matthew stepped out.
Ruby burped. “Why is he here?”
Only then did Charlotte remember that halfway through, Matthew had messaged her to ask for the name of the hotel where they were eating.
Charlotte had casually replied.
She just hadn’t expected he would actually come.
Right as Matthew was getting close, Charlotte was suddenly pulled into Gordon’s arms.
He was still mumbling, “Charlie, it really has been a long time, huh.”
Charlotte shoved hard, but she couldn’t push him off.
At the same time, she saw Matthew’s face darkened in an instant.

He lunged forward, yanked Gordon off Charlotte.

Gordon stumbled and nearly fell, only staying up because Ruby caught him.
Ruby didn’t even have time to speak before she saw Matthew drag Charlotte away.
Charlotte was in high heels and nearly twisted her ankle, but she still remembered to gesture to Ruby to contact her later.
The car shot down the overpass the whole way, way over the speed limit.
Matthew’s face looked terrible.
Charlotte gripped the handle tightly and stayed silent for now.
If she spoke at a time like this, it would only make him angrier. With reckless driving, it was easy to end up with two deaths in one crash.
Oh, not two.
Three.
If something happened to Matthew, whatever. Charlotte still had to live.
The car finally stopped at the villa’s gate.
Catching a gap, Charlotte edited a text and sent it.
Just a few words: Love Bay.
After sending it, before Matthew could snatch her phone away, she deleted the
message.
Matthew searched and didn’t find anything. With a livid face, he asked, “We’re already
home and you still can’t bear to part?”
Charlotte explained calmly, “Gordon is my college senior. We even did part-time work
together before, so we’re close. Today he was just happy and drank too much.”
“Gordon?” Matthew paused slightly.
That famous investment heavyweight, Gordon Cameron?
Matthew had never met him. He’d only heard about him from others-a terrifyingly
capable investment big shot.
