Isabella stared at the video on her phone-Charlotte and Matthew looking glued together, sickeningly intimate. Rage exploded in her chest. She hurled the phone to the

floor as hard as she could.

Everly walked in and caught it at exactly the wrong moment.

Isabella’s heart jolted. For as long as she’d been in the Russell family, she’d always

played the role of the sweet, sensible good girl.

Everly bent down, picked up the phone, and lifted her hand, signaling the nanny to leave.

After the door shut, she finally spoke.

“What are you so mad about? That woman just got lucky for the moment. Matt likes you

in his heart. Don’t tell me you don’t know that?”

Isabella froze. “Mom… how do you know…”

She’d never told anyone. She’d only been quietly taking advantage of Matthew’s feelings

for her.

Everly said, “I’ve been through it. And Matt is my own flesh and blood. You think I can’t

tell what he’s thinking?”

Isabella’s voice softened. “Mom…”

Everly held her hand. “Don’t be scared. I know, but I’m not angry. And I’m not against you

two actually being together.”

Joy leaped in Isabella’s chest, but she forced her mouth to say, “I only see Matt as a

brother. Nothing else.”

Everly said, “Silly girl. You’ve already had Matt’s son. How can he still be just a brother?

Sooner or later, you two are going to end up together.”

Isabella lowered her lashes, shy. “How could we possibly be together? Morally… it

doesn’t make sense.”

Everly said, “As long as Matt gets divorced, you’ll be a woman without a husband, and

he’ll be a man without a wife. Why can’t you be together? Joseph is your son. Even

heaven is telling you that you belong together.”

“Divorce?” Isabella probed on purpose. “How could Charlie possibly divorce Matt?”

The Smith family was in a downfall now. That woman would cling to the Russell family

like a lifeline. How could she divorce!

“Whether she divorces or not isn’t up to her. Just wait. I will definitely find a way to make

her divorce.”

“And I want her to be the one to bring up divorce herself. I want her out with nothing.

Charlotte rushed to the hospital.

The doctor who’d handled her IVF back then pulled her into an office, his face grim.

Inside the office was a nurse, a little younger.

The doctor said sternly, “You tell Mrs. Russell the situation yourself.”

The nurse sobbed. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Russell. The sperm used for your insemination… I took

the wrong one.”

The nurse said, “The one I took that day wasn’t Mr. Russell’s sperm. It was someone

else’s.”

For a long while, Charlotte couldn’t even process it.

“You mean… the baby in my belly isn’t Matthew’s?”
