Chapter 44 King’s Real Identity
Charlotte showed up right on time.
In the private room, besides Nathan, Steven was there too.
The moment Steven saw Charlotte, he took the initiative to stand.
“Hello, Ms. Smith. I’m Mr. Hall’s assistant, Steven.”
Charlotte nodded with a polite smile. “Nice to meet you.”

Nathan was wearing a warm off-white sweater, sitting upright by the tea table. His features were refined and calm, like some aristocratic gentleman untouched by the noise
of the world.
She didn’t know why, but every time she saw him, she felt grounded.
Maybe this was the kind of man people meant when they said someone was as flawless
as jade-one of a kind.
Without any small talk, Steven pulled out the contract.
His style really did resemble Nathan’s.
Clean. Efficient. No wasted time.
“Ms. Smith, this is the contract. Please take a look.”
Charlotte took a pen from her bag. “No need.”
With a bold stroke, she signed her name.
Steven froze, startled. “Ms. Smith, this isn’t a small contract. You’re not even going to
read it?”
Charlotte smiled lightly, answering as if it were nothing. “Your boss already wired me
the full amount upfront. Why wouldn’t I trust you?”
Steven looked like he hadn’t caught her meaning.
“Pardon?”
Charlotte glanced at Nathan. “Did I say something I shouldn’t have?”

Nathan’s smile stayed faint. “Steven is one of us. It’s fine.”
Only then did Charlotte relax.

Steven looked downright wronged. “Sir, are you hiding something from me?”
Nathan responded, “Drink your tea.”
“Oh.”
Nathan slid a document across the table.
“This is what I organized earlier-about how future Al foundation models will develop and be positioned in the next major wave across six key industries. Take a look for me. See if anything needs correcting or adding.”
“And,” Nathan added, passing over a USB drive, “this has my comprehensive analysis of future system R&D, including the project background, goals, expected outcomes,
potential challenges, and an evaluation of feasibility and risk.
“Help me check that too. See if I missed anything.”
Charlotte took them and couldn’t help laughing. “You’re the impressive one. You still
need me to review it?”
Nathan looked serious. “No one is perfect. Maybe you can make up for what I lack.”
Charlotte felt a wave of emotion.
A man this capable, and this humble-rare didn’t even begin to cover it.
“Okay. I’ll read it when I get back.”
Nathan added, “You can contact me anytime. If I’m busy and don’t pick up or reply, I’ll get
back to you as soon as I can.”
“Okay.”
As soon as the words landed, she couldn’t resist opening the document in her hands.
It was handwritten.
The handwriting matched the man-steady, elegant, with a quiet strength hiding
between every stroke.

The content hit her field and her interests dead-on. Charlotte sank into it without
realizing, completely forgetting there were still two people sitting across from her.
Watching her bend over the pages so intently, Steven couldn’t help staring for a
moment.
The scene looked like a painting.
A poised, beautiful woman, lost in her own world-utterly focused, everything else fading into silence, like nothing outside could disturb her.
Only then did Steven truly realize that the woman in front of him was Mrs. Russell in
name, but in reality, she seemed like someone unfathomable.

To build a pixel-level game that powerful all on her own-how could an ordinary person
do that?
Steven instinctively looked at Nathan.
Nathan sipped his tea with effortless grace. His eyes would drift to Charlotte from time
to time, and a faint smile lingered at the corner of his mouth.
That kind of expression-that softness-Steven had never seen.
Even when he was with his fiancée, Steven had never once seen Nathan look this gentle,
this quietly peaceful.
Steven wanted to say something. He lowered his voice. “Sir…”
Nathan lifted a finger in a hush.
Steven got the message and stopped talking.
Charlotte read the entire document in one go.
When she finally looked up, she saw both men smiling at her.
She gave an embarrassed laugh. “Sorry. I’m like this sometimes. When I get into
something, I forget everything else.”
Nathan responded, “It’s fine. Take your time. I’m going to the restroom.”
Because of that one sentence-one of us-Steven was a lot less stiff.
“Ms. Smith, I heard you graduated from Sunriver University?”

“Even though I’ve been following my boss in Hang Kong, I’ve still heard plenty about
Sunriver University. That place produces talent like crazy.”
Charlotte smiled. “It’s not that big a deal.”
“I also heard that the former vice leader of the ‘King Alliance,’ that hacker called ‘Storm,’
was from Sunriver University too.”
Charlotte kept her face calm. “So it seems.”
Let the past stay in the past.
She’d better not admit she was Storm.
Steven’s eyes lit up with admiration.
“I heard she did a lot of good all on her own-stopping foreign cyberattacks, taking
down online crime, helping the police catch suspects… so many things. She’s seriously
incredible.”
“But it’s a shame. Nobody knows her real identity.”
Charlotte took a small sip of tea and smiled without answering.
Steven sighed. “Even my boss couldn’t find her. Looks like I’ll never get to meet that top-
tier expert in my lifetime.”
Charlotte gave a quiet laugh. “You admire her that much?”
Steven said without hesitation, “Of course. Character and ability-both. How could
anyone not admire someone like that? The same way I admire my boss.”
Charlotte echoed, “Your boss really is outstanding.”
On that point, she didn’t deny a thing.
Whether it was his social finesse, the way he handled people, his talent, his competence
-there was nothing to pick at.
And with looks like his stacked on top? Multiple buffs piled together. No one could
resist.
Steven’s eyes gleamed. “Exactly! He is one in ten thousand. Otherwise, back then, how

could he have been the leader of the ‘King Alliance’?”
Charlotte’s hand, holding the teacup, stopped.
