Chapter 50 The Fun Is Only Just Beginning
Charlotte didn’t bother to avoid it. She answered right in front of Nathan.
Matthew’s voice sounded restrained.
It should be.

He’d lost several of his top people in a row. Anyone would be in a bad mood.
Matthew said, “The charity auction is the day after tomorrow. You didn’t forget, did you?”
Charlotte responded, “I’ll be back tomorrow.”
“Good. As long as you didn’t forget.”
“If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
“You really don’t want to talk to me that badly?”
Charlotte forced down her disgust. “No. I’m just a little tired. I want to rest.”

On the other end, Matthew
“Something happened at the company.”
Charlotte asked, though she knew why, “What happened to the company?”
Matthew said, “Do you remember that Nathan you saw last time?”
Out of the corner of her eye, Charlotte glanced at the man sitting quietly on the couch-
so elegant and noble even drinking a glass of milk. She swallowed her laughter.
The fun was only just beginning.
This wasn’t the time to laugh out loud.
Charlotte answered, “I kind of remember. What is wrong with him?”
Matthew sounded like he was gritting his teeth.
“I told you a long time ago-no white rabbits get raised in a wolf’s den. That man looks
gentle and refined, but he’s really something. In just a few days, he quietly poached
several core technical staff from my company.”

“I didn’t expect that he hasn’t been in Sunriver long after coming from Hang Kong, and
he already has connections like that.”
Charlotte played dumb.
“How could that happen? Then you must be under so much pressure right now.”
Matthew let out a cold laugh.
“He thinks stealing a few people can affect me? If I’ve got money, am I going to be
unable to find replacements? In a few days, the tech department will be running
normally.”
Charlotte knew that, too. As long as the temptation was big enough, people could
always be found.
So hearing it, she didn’t feel particularly disappointed.
“It’s good you can find people. You scared me to death.”
She deliberately sounded worried.
Matthew said, “But I want you to do something for me.”
Charlotte guessed it was probably nothing good.
“That Gordon-he’s your senior from school, right?”
Charlotte responded, “Yeah. What about it?”
“I want you to introduce me.”
Charlotte froze for a few seconds.
“What are you trying to do?”
Matthew continued, “I heard he knows quite a few big shots in politics. I want to use him
to pull in some important connections.”
Thinking she was hesitating, Matthew tossed out bait.
“Once it’s done, whatever you want, I’ll buy it for you.”
Charlotte held back a laugh. “Okay.”

She hung up.
She really couldn’t hold it in anymore.

Matthew probably didn’t know Gordon and Nathan were as close as brothers.
Nathan said, “What is it?”
Charlotte told him honestly.
“My husband wants Gordon to help introduce him to political connections.”
Nathan understood immediately. He chuckled. “The land in the southern suburbs
must’ve made him really unwilling to let it go.”
Charlotte added, “I definitely don’t want to help with that. But if I do help, it actually
benefits me. So I need to think carefully-how to help just enough. Enough to make
Matthew satisfied, but not let him truly profit.”
Nathan said, “That’s easy. Leave it to Gordon. He has plenty of ways.”
Charlotte smiled softly. “You’re right.”
The next day, after chatting with Mila for a while, Charlotte got ready to head back to
Love Bay.
She had just gotten into the car when Margaret’s call came in.
“I happened to be passing by, so I came to see your in-laws.”
Charlotte didn’t react for a moment. “What do you mean?”
Margaret said, “What do I mean? We’re basically at your door already.”
Charlotte’s heart jolted.
“Why would you go to Love Bay?!”
Margaret said, “Why are you getting so worked up! In-laws visiting each other is normal, isn’t it? Besides, your husband helped us with such a big favor. I should come personally
to thank him.”
Charlotte panicked and started the car immediately.
If the six billion-dollar thing got exposed, she’d be in trouble.

Then both sides would question where such a huge amount of money came from.
Charlotte was so anxious she almost ran a red light.
When she got home, Margaret was already sitting in the living room.
And beside her was Robert.
Keeping them company was Lillian.
When Charlotte walked in, Lillian lifted her eyelids, her tone deliberately much gentler.
“Speak of the devil. Charlie, we were just talking about you.”
Charlotte walked over, uneasy.
“Mom, why didn’t you tell me before you came?”
Margaret looked every inch the wealthy lady. “I was just passing by. I thought I’d come
take a look.”
Charlotte frowned slightly. “Mom, you should’ve told me earlier.”
“This child.”
Margaret wanted to scold her, but remembering they were at the Russell house, she
held it back.
“Grandma didn’t mind, so why are you making a big deal out of it?”
Charlotte glanced at Lillian.
All kind and benevolent.
If you didn’t know better, you’d think she was the sweetest old lady in the world.
What an act!
Lillian smiled. “Young people these days all have their own ideas. We’re old-we can’t
