One thing I hated about what happened to me, was the anxiety that filled me when something simple happened. For instance, the doorbell ringing. It was the third time someone had rung it.
I knew that you needed a code to get up to the penthouse, so it was probably someone they knew, but the scared part of my mind filled with images of the faceless man who liked sending me messages.
Elias was showering.
I took a step back, trying to be as quiet as possible so whoever was outside didn’t hear me.
The door handle twisted, making me freeze. I sucked in a sharp breath when the door slowly inched open. It snapped me into action. Spinning around, I ran down the hallway towards Elias’s room.
Closing the bedroom door softly, I turned the lock and then hurried into the bathroom.
I climbed into the shower and gripped his slippery arm.
“Daisy, what-”
“S–someone’s in the apartment,” I hissed. “The door was open, they’re inside.”
The expression on his face instantly changed. Gripping my arms, he pushed me into the corner of the shower and stepped away.
“Stay here,” he ordered. “No matter what, you don’t move from this spot until I come to get you.”
I nodded, watching as he got out of the shower, grabbed a towel to wrap around his hips, and then left the room.
My legs gave way beneath me, sending me sliding to the floor. The water was beating down on me but I couldn’t care less. All I could think about was how much of a coward I was.
Elias was risking his life for me and I was too scared to go out there and help him fight the intruder.
Had they come for me?
Were they going to drug me and then lock me up in the closet until John paid them the money they wanted?
Were they going to taunt me?
It was going to be all over the TV again. Everybody was going to stare at me.
“Hey.”
I jerked, my body instinctively trying to move away from the man hovering in front of me. A scream rose in my
throat.
“Flower.”
My body jerked again. I blinked.
Elias was crouched in front of me, hands outstretched as if he wanted to touch me. My eyes dropped, searching for any injuries but there were none. He looked fine.

It could all be an act.
“Daisy,” Elias said softly. “There’s no threat.”
“But I saw the door open,” I whispered.
It couldn’t have been my imagination, could it?
Elias nodded and reached out to stroke a finger down my cheek. “It’s our Moms,” he said softly. “They came over to get everything ready for Alex’s birthday surprise.”
I hated to ask him this, but I needed to know. “C–can I…trust them? They won’t tell anybody that I’m here.”
“You can trust them.” He gave me a gentle smile. “They won’t tell anybody about you staying here, I promise.”
I nodded, trying but failing to believe him.
“Come here flower, you’re shaking.”
Swallowing, I crawled straight into his waiting arms. He hugged me close as he slowly stood and stepped out of the shower.
“I’ll install a camera by the front door,” he said softly. “That way when there’s someone at the door, you will be able to see who it is.”
“I didn’t check the cameras,” I muttered.
Elias had installed a security system with cameras throughout the apartment and one in the hall at the front door.
“Don’t beat yourself up over this,” Elias told me. “It’s normal for your instincts to tell you to run after what happened to you.”
“I’m a coward.”
Elias pressed his forehead against mine and closed his eyes. “Did you go to therapy…after?”
“No,” I whispered. “I was too afraid to leave my room.”
“And your parents never made arrangements for anyone to go see you?”
I swallowed. “No.”
“After the accident, I was forced to go to therapy. I thought that it was shit and that I didn’t need it because it wouldn’t do anything.” His eyes fluttered open and locked with mine. “It helped talking to a stranger about all your fears and shit going through your mind. I’m not saying that talking to a therapist will heal you, but it might help.”
“But I’ll have to leave the penthouse.”
He smiled. “You won’t have to. We can arrange for Skype sessions.”
“I’ll think about it.”

“Okay.”
Gripping the back of my neck, I kissed me. I wrapped my arms around his waist and parted my legs to pull him closer. My lips parted under his but before I could slip my tongue into his mouth, he pulled away.
“Let’s get you dry.”
I raised my arms so he could pull the soaked shirt off. Elias hesitated a moment before he reached for the sports bra. My heartbeat increased when he pulled it off. I was suddenly hyper–aware of the fact that he only had a towel wrapped around his waist and I was half–naked.
We’d been naked before.
We’d kissed and we’d touched.
But we haven’t had sex yet.
Elias hasn’t hinted at taking things further than making out.
I wasn’t really sure how to feel about that. A part of me was okay with how things were going because, to be frank, my body was still recovering from the sex Alex and I had.
Gripping my hips, he lowered me to my feet and hooked his fingers into the band of my pants to push them down my legs. Elias grabbed a towel and started drying my body. His hands didn’t linger like I imagined they
would.
Once my body was dry, he started on my hair.
I stared at his chest inches from my face. For a moment I wondered what his skin looked like before the accident but I instantly pushed that thought away. It didn’t matter what he looked like before.
“Why haven’t we had sex?” I blurted out.
His eyes snapped to mine. “Because I don’t want to rush things.”
“Oh.”
Elias smiled. “So you think our movie marathons are boring?”
“No!” I instantly denied it. “I was just wondering why we haven’t…” I trailed off, colour flooding my cheeks.
“I’m waiting for you to make the first move,” Elias said softly.
“I’ve been waiting for you,” I whispered.
“Okay.” His eyes dropped to trail down my body. “Tonight then.”
“Isn’t it Alex’s birthday party?”
“We can claim a headache and go to bed earlier,” Elias suggested. “Nobody will question it.”
I hesitated but the thought excited me.
“Let’s do it.”

Elias kissed me. “Now let’s get out there before they destroy my kitchen.”

Watching Elias dress had to be the sexiest thing I had ever seen.
But the effect it had on my body disappeared the moment we stepped out of his bedroom and the loud voices of two women and a man drifted towards us.
I was about to meet their parents dressed in a pair of boxers that was too small for him and one of his t–shirts that was too big. The urge to run and hide was there, but Elias’s firm hold on my hand kept me from actually doing it.
And then we stepped into view and I blinked at the scene that greeted me.
There was a woman with ash blonde hair, giving out instructions. The other woman’s hair was a light shade of brown. They looked similar but it was obvious that the woman with the blonde hair was older.
My eyes snapped to the left when movement caught my attention.
A large man with red hair and tattooed–covered arms stood from where he was seated on the couch. His smile was bright but he had a look of caution in his eyes as he studied me.
“Can you please not rearrange the cupboards,” Elias growled, letting go of my hand to rush forward. “I can’t find anything in here when you leave.”
I clasped my hands in front of me as I awkwardly stood there watching them.
The man cleared his throat. “Where are your manners E?”
Muttering under his breath, Elias rushed back over to my side. “Sorry.” He gave me an apologetic smile.” Mom’s, Dad, this is our guest Daisy. Daisy this is Mom Beatrice or Bee for short.” He gestured towards the woman with the blonde hair. “Mom Sylvia.” He gestured towards the other woman and then turned me towards the man. “And this is Dad Allister. You’ll meet Logan and Benjamin tonight.”
“Daisy? The omega from TV?”
I instantly shrunk back but Elias tugged me against his side and wrapped an arm around my waist.
“Sylvia,” Allister growled. He stepped forward and held out his hand. “Nice to meet you, sweetheart.”
I stared at his hand for a few seconds and then hesitantly placed mine in his. “H–hi. I like your accent.”
His smile widened. “Thank you. That’s not a compliment I get a lot.”
“Where’s your mixer Elias?” Bee questioned. “We need to start with the cake otherwise it will never be finished in time.”
Letting out a sigh, Elias gave my waist a squeeze and stepped away. I caught his arm and tugged him closer.
“I need to go change,” I whispered. “I’ll be right back.
He studied me for a moment. “No hiding.”

I nodded and with a smile in his parents‘ direction, I hurried towards my bedroom. I’d feel much better wearing my own clothes.
