Claiming their Omega (Suzi de Beer) novel Chapter 38

  1. DAISY

Someone’s phone was vibrating.

An irritating sound that pulled me out of my sleep.

The mattress dipped as Val sat up with a low groan and reached for the phone on the bedside table.

Hello?he answered hoarsely. This is him.

He fell silent but I felt his body tense. Running a hand through his hair, he took a few steps away from the bed

but froze.

When?Val paused again. Is he okay? How long ago? Okay. I’ll meet you at the front desk.

Hanging up, he dropped his phone back on the bedside table and then leaned down to shake Elias’s shoulder and then mine.

What?Elias groaned, turning onto his front.

I sat up and reached for him.

Val swallowed loudly, eyes darting between Elias and me. Dad called,he said softly. There’s been an accident.

Elias was instantly on alert. Are they okay?

It’s not them.He paused. It’s Alex.

My heart dropped to my stomach, the air locked in my throat and tears instantly filled my eyes. Panic clawed up my throat, making it impossible for me to find my voice.

Breathe like I taught you flower,Elias said, his voice drifting towards me from far away. Come on.

I blinked at the blurry figure a few inches in front of my face. Warm hands cupped my cheeks and tilted my head back so he could press his forehead to mine. His breath fanned my lips and before I knew it, we were breathing together.

Val is going to the hospital,Elias whispered. You don’t have to go, flower. We can stay here and wait for them to get back

No.I reached up to grip his wrist. Need to go.

“Okay. His lips brushed mine for a second. Get dressed.

He helped me off the bed and then left me to go grab his own clothes. I dressed quickly by grabbing the first piece of clothing I could find. Slipping on my shoes, I hurried out of the room.

Val was already waiting by the door and a second later Elias appeared.

He took my hand, holding on tightly as we rode the elevator down to the parking lot.

Val led the way to a blue car and opened the passenger door for me.

My mind started racing with different scenarios. Was he badly injured? Was he going to be okay? Was he in surgery? Was he dying?

What did Dad say?Elias asked from the back seat.

He got a call from a police officer who told him that Alex had been in an accident and was taken to the hospital with an ambulance. He paused. They just got there but haven’t been allowed to see him yet.

Do they know what condition he’s in?

No, the doctor haven’t said anything to them.

I stared out the window at the passing lights as we drove through town. We arrived at the hospital a few minutes later and met their dad Logan at the front desk. He led the way to the elevator and then down a hall towards a

room.

It was only when we entered the room and my eyes locked on the man lying in bed with a bandage against his forehead, his arm, and his leg in a cast, that I became aware of my surroundings again.

However, it didn’t last long.

The image of Alex was replaced by one of Elias. I was having a flashback of the day I went to look for him after the bombing. I had found himseen him in the bed with bandages covering half his body and his face.

Daisy?

Before I knew what was happening, the room started tilting, black dots appeared in my line of vision.

And then I was falling.

Down, down, down until I was swallowed by a black hole.

When I came to, I was in another room in a hospital bed with Val sitting beside me. He smiled when our eyes locked, but it instantly faded.

Reaching out, he took my hand and raised it to his lips to press a kiss to a dark bruise on the back of my hand.

How are you feeling petal?

My head hurts,I croaked.

His lips twitched. That’s our fault. You went down so fast, that none of us managed to catch you before you hit the ground.

I raised my other hand and brushed shaky fingers over the bump there.

Alex is going to be okay,Val said softly, snapping my attention back to him. He has a concussion, some stitches, and a broken leg.

Are you sure he’s going to be okay?I asked him, anxiety crawling up my throat.

He’s going to be his usual asshole self in no time,Val smirked. Once the painkiller and antibiotics work out

of his system.

Val silently studied me for a few seconds and then stood.

Do you want to go see him?

I nodded. Pushing myself up, I gripped his hand and allowed him to help me up. The room spun for a few seconds but then thankfully stopped.

What happened?

1 bit my lip as I hesitated.

Letting out a sigh, he stepped forward and gripped my chin to tilt my head up so I could look at him.

Daisy

After the accidentnobody would tell me anything about Elias. I went searching for him and I found him.I swallowed. Seeing Alex like thatIt made me remember seeing Elias.

Val said nothing. He pressed a kiss to my forehead and slipped an arm around my waist to pull me against his side. All the way to Alex’s room, he stayed silent.

It made me regret saying anything.

This time when we entered Alex’s room, I was better prepared.

His eyes instantly locked with mine. The concern in them made his irises appear darker than they truly were. Alex didn’t smile or beckon me closer to the bed, he waited.

When I was sure that I wasn’t going to face plant the floor again, I stepped away from Val and made my way over to him.

His eyes darted over my face. The questions clear, but he voiced none of them.

But the moment he opened his arms, I burst into tears.

Oh Daisygirl, don’t cry,he pleaded softly. I’m fine.

Someone gripped my hips and carefully lifted me onto the bed. The moment his arm wrapped around me, I collapsed against his chest and sobbed.

It scared me that we had been so close to losing him.

Just earlier that day I had kissed him goodbye and watched him walk out of the penthouse with a smirk hovering on his lips.

That’s enough now, baby girl,Alex growled against my ear. No more crying. I don’t want you wasting your tears on an old bastard like me.

I pressed my face to the crook of his neck and breathed him in.

But he didn’t smell like my Alex. He smelled of disinfectant and chemicals from the pills they gave him.

His hand soothed down my hair to the back of my neck where his fingers slipped into my tangled hair. Tugging slightly, I raised my head and sucked in a sharp breath when his lips captured mine.

Missed you,he whispered when we broke apart. Did you miss me?

I nodded.

I didn’t get you that chocolate you wanted.

His words made tears fill my eyes all over again.

I don’t care about the chocolate,I told him. I shouldn’t have asked you to get it. You should have-

Wouldn’t have changed anything, Daisygirl,Alex interrupted. This is not your fault, do you understand me?

I bit my lip. How does he know that I’ve been blaming myself for what happened to him?

It’s not,he growled. I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Like always,Val muttered.

My head snapped in his direction. I glared at him. It’s not funny! Alex could have died!

Yeah, it’s not funny Val.Elias slapped him on the back of his head as he moved closer.

Just ignore the kids, baby girl,Alex said, gripping my chin to turn my head towards him. Do you know what I was thinking while I laid there as the doctors stitched me up?

What?

I’m thinking that I’m not getting my omega enough courting gifts.

My heartbeat increased. Alex

I know what you said, and I heard you, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to listen to you. Told you before baby girl, you belong with us and I’m more determent than even to show you that.

I swallowed loudly and decided the best option was to settle against his side with my face hidden in the crook of his neck.

People said weird things when they were high on painkillers. Tomorrow, once he was thinking a little more clearly, he would feel differently.

No pack would want an omega like me to be part of their pack.
