“Can you drive?”
My eyes snapped up. “What?”
“Can you drive?” Alex repeated his question softly.
He was propped up against the pillows, the bandage on his arm had been removed, revealing the ugly red scrapes he had gotten from the broken glass and twisted metal.
“N–No,” I muttered, flushing bright red when his lips twitched.
“You’re telling me that you’re an eighteen–year–old who has never gotten behind the wheel. Weren’t you even a little curious about driving? Owning your own car?”
I shifted uneasily in the chair. “Not much of an outgoing person, remember?”
“I know. But seriously, you’ve never wanted to learn?”
I shook my head.
“Why?”
“I’ve just never gotten the urge to learn how to drive. It would have been useless since I barely leave the house, and I’m fine with that.”
He nodded slowly. “I wish you knew though,” he muttered. “I want to go home.”
“The doctor hasn’t given you a go ahead, yet. He said that you’ll be staying here until the test results are back.”
Alex sighed. “Well, at least now I know how Elias felt.”
I winced.
“Baby girl, why do you always do that?”
“Do what?” I whispered, focusing my attention back on the book resting on my lap.
“I understand that you went through something traumatic, but talking about it helps. Every time we mention the accident…it’s like you just shut down.” He shifted slightly. “Is it so bad to talk about it?”
I turned to face him more. “I don’t like talking about it,” I told him. “I don’t like remembering what happened and what we went through after.”
“And what you’re still going through,” he said softly.
My eyes dropped to the book on my lap. Being back in the hospital brought back memories I had blocked behind a brick wall. I didn’t want to be reminded of the pain and fear I had gone through afterward.
“Tell me, what things have eighteen–year–olds done that you never have?” he asked, thankfully changing the topic.
I slipped the bookmark between the pages before I closed the book and focused my full attention on Alex.

“Do you really want to know?”
“Wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t.”
I hesitated. “I’ve never been to the movies,” I said softly.
“Really?” he asked with raised eyebrows.
“Yeah.”
His eyes darted over my face. “What else?”
“I’ve never gotten drunk or went to a high school party. I’ve never smoked a joint or stole anything.” I paused.” I’ve never been to the mall to do some shopping with any friends.”
“Have you ever wanted to do any of those things?”
I shrugged. I wanted to do a lot of things, but I never got to. As years passed, I just gave up on ever trying any of the “normal” things girls my age did.
“You’ve never gotten drunk?” Val asked as he straightened from his spot on the sofa where he had been asleep.
“No.”
“Not even at one of John’s famous dinner parties?”
“I didn’t feel safe enough,” I whispered, avoiding eye contact.
“Do you feel safe with us?”
“Val,” Alex growled. “You are not going to get Daisy drunk.”
“Why not? Everyone needs to get drunk once in their life!” Val suddenly appeared at my chair. “What do you say, petal? Do you want to experience a lot of your firsts with us?”
I blushed. “I like experiencing my first with you,” I told him.
Smiling widely, he gripped the back of my neck and pulled my lips to his. The book forgotten, it slipped to the floor and landed with a loud thud that made me jump and jerk away from Val.
We all tensed as the door to the room opened.
Val was on his feet, jerking me behind him and growling at the man who entered.
I gripped the back of his shirt and peeked out from behind him.
The man filled the doorway. He was scary–looking and awfully familiar.
Smirking, he stepped into the room and slowly pushed the door closed.
“Gentlemen,” he greeted and then looked at me. “Daisy.”
“How the hell do you know her name?” Elias growled.
He moved in front of us, blocking the man’s path when he took another step forward.

“H–he visited me in the hospital after…” I swallowed loudly. “John does business with him.”
“Use to,” the man corrected softly. “I’m sorry about the accident, Alex.”
“Did you have anything to do with it?” Val growled.
He didn’t answer him immediately. Walking over to the window, he stood there for a few seconds and then turned to take a seat on the couch. He leaned back with a sigh.
“I didn’t have anything to do with your accident, Alex,” he finally said. “But I know who did.”
“You also know who’s after Daisy.”
For a moment, ice blue eyes darted to me.
“Yes, I know.” He smirked again. “My name is Aiden Lennox. Like I asked you, Alex. How much is your omega worth to you?”
“Elias, get her out of here,” Alex ordered softly.
Aiden made a sound at the back of his throat. “Wouldn’t do that if I were you. The bloodhounds already got a whiff of your blood.”
Val muttered a curse. “I made sure that nobody blabbed.”
Elias took a seat on the chair, bent to pick up the book, and then reached out to pull me onto his lap.
I clutched the book to my chest and stared at the scary–looking man through my lashes. Elias rubbed my back, keeping the anxiety and fear at bay.
“How much do you want?” Alex growled.
“I don’t want any money, but I could use some of your connections.”
The two men stared at each other.
“Who wants to hurt Daisy?”
“Before I tell you, I want to talk about a few things.” His eyes darted to Val. “I don’t like it when people invade our privacy.”
Val’s eyes narrowed.
“My brothers and I are aware of the little tail you have on us, and the fact that you’ve been digging around.” Aiden folded his hands behind his head. “I normally don’t mind it because we have nothing to hide, but I can’t have you risking our operation.”
“Operation?” All eyes in the room snapped towards me.
I pressed myself tighter against Elias’s chest.
“John’s staff like to talk.”
“I’m sure they do,” he muttered drily. “Which is why I only tell him what I want others to know.”

“You’re known for abusing omegas and making them disappear.”
Aiden threw his head back and laughed. His laughter slowly died down as he looked at us again.
“That’s what everyone believes which suits us just fine.” He scratched his chin. “We formed an alliance with an Omega Centre. Legally they can only do so much to help omegas in trouble. That’s where we come in. We protect omegas from danger, and make them disappear if we have to.” His eyes darted to mine. “We don’t hurt omegas.”
“How do we know that you’re telling the truth?”
“I’ll show you if you decide to accept our help.”
Alex cleared his throat. “Tell me what you know.”
“You already know that John promised Daisy to our pack for her first heat because he owes us money.”
I tensed, the colour draining from my face. John was planning on giving me away to a pack for my first heat? My stomach twisted with nausea. When was he planning on doing that? How much money does he owe them?
“Breathe,” Elias whispered against my ear.
I glanced around at them, finding that none of them looked surprised by what he just said. It made it clear that somehow they already knew about it and none of them figured it was important to tell me about it.
“Have you opened the envelope yet?”
Elias tensed. “You were at the door? You scared our fucking omega!”
Aiden held up a hand. “It’s all part of his plan. We agreed ‘cuz we figured it’ll be easy to get a message to you. They’ve been watching us too.” He frowned at Alex. “I didn’t know that they were going to go behind our back and try to take you out.”
“Are you saying that this was an assassination attempt?” Val asked.
“Yes.” Aiden leaned forward. “The plan was simple, but he’s getting impatient. I have information on him, but not enough to take him down. He wants us to kidnap your omega, and then he plans on taking her back and then blaming it on us. He doesn’t know that we know that part.”
“He’s getting more reckless,” Alex muttered.
“Yes. Which is why we want your help.”
“What do you have in mind?”
Aiden looked at me. “It’s something you might not like. Before I tell you, please keep in mind that this is the only way to take him out.”
“I don’t want Daisy anywhere near that bastard,” Alex growled.
“I understand.” Aiden stood and stared at all of them for a few seconds. “But if we don’t do this now, he will keep trying until he gets what he wants. He’s trying to get rid of you and with you out of the way, it will be easy for him to take her. The next pack he promises her to might not be as friendly as us Alex.”
