Ditched the Cheater, Pregnant by Mr. Righ novel Chapter 110

Chapter 110 Too Close

Quinn did not understand why she suddenly felt that way.

At the time, she simply could not explain it.

Only later, after she and Julian were truly together, did she finally understand what that look in his eyes

had meant.

But right now, all she felt was a faint uneasiness.

It was like an instinctive alert, the kind that made someone suddenly aware of a hidden danger nearby.

At the same time, Julian’s words strangely reassured her.

“Anyway, thank you, Mr. Ster-”

She stopped herself halfway through. “Thank you,” she corrected quickly.

Julian placed one hand on the steering wheel. The veins along the back of his hand were visible, giving his grip a sense of restrained strength.

“You should go upstairs,” he said. “Get some rest.”

Quinn immediately reached for the door handle.

She could not explain why, but the air inside the car made her heart race and her face grow warm.

Just before opening the door, she noticed the handkerchief still in her hand.

“Oh, this…”

She had intended to say she would wash it and return it later. Although she was not sure whether Julian would mind that she had used it.

“You can keep it,” Julian said.

Quinn thanked him again and stepped out of the car.

After getting out, she stayed beside the car for a moment. To her, it was simply good manners to wait until the driver left before heading inside..

But the car did not move.

Quinn was not sure why.

After hesitating briefly, she bent slightly in a polite bow and then turned to walk toward the building

entrance.

Julian’s gaze followed her the entire way.

He watched until she disappeared from view. Only then did he lower his eyes.

When he glanced down and noticed the very obvious reaction his body was having, he let out a quiet, self- mocking laugh.

Pathetic. Seriously pathetic.

Meanwhile, Quinn walked into the building lobby. Lucy quickly put her phone away and hurried over.

“Quinn! What did Julian say to you?”

Quinn shook her head. “He didn’t really say anything.”

Lucy looked confused.

Then she noticed the handkerchief in Quinn’s hand. “Oh? That’s his, isn’t it?”

Quinn suddenly felt a little embarrassed.

“Yeah… I couldn’t hold it in earlier and started crying again. He gave it to me.”

Lucy immediately misunderstood.

“What did he say that made you cry? Seriously? Julian can be such a jerk sometimes!”

“No, no,” Quinn said quickly. “It wasn’t him. I just remembered what happened tonight and got emotional again.”

Lucy sighed in relief.

“You scared me. I thought he did something terrible.”

“How could he?”

“That’s good then.”

Lucy hooked her arm around Quinn’s as they walked toward the elevators.

“Go take a hot shower, relax a little, and get some sleep. You’ll feel a lot better in the morning.”

“Thank you,” Quinn said softly, leaning against her shoulder. “Lucy, really… thank you.”

Lucy laughed.

“Come on, what are friends for? We’re practically planning our retirement together. No need to be so formal with me.”

Quinn smiled. Her phone suddenly rang. She glanced at the screen.

“Veronica.”

The elevator doors opened just then. Quinn quickly answered the call.

“Veronica, I’m getting into the elevator. The signal might cut out.”

The reception inside was spotty, but fortunately they reached their floor quickly.

“Quinn, are you alright?” Veronica asked immediately. “I just heard what happened. I’m so sorry. This is partly my fault.”

“Why would you apologize?” Quinn asked.

“I was the one who introduced you to Harold. How was I supposed to know he’d turn out to be such a disgusting creep?” Veronica said angrily.

“I’m really okay,” Quinn reassured her. “You couldn’t have known. No one expected him to do something like that. Lucy’s here with me too. If you’re worried, you can ask her.”

Lucy leaned toward the phone.

“Yeah, Veronica. Don’t worry. I’ve got Quinn.”

After a few more sentences, Veronica finally hung up. Then she called Julian.

By that time, Julian had already regained his composure. The driver had arrived, and Julian was now sitting in the back seat.

His handsome face remained hidden in the dim light, his expression unreadable. He answered the phone.

“You talked to her?”

“I did,” Veronica said. “This one’s on me. Quinn got dragged into something she didn’t deserve.”

“You meant well,” Julian said calmly. “But next time, tell me beforehand.”

“All situations?” Veronica asked playfully. “Or just the ones involving Quinn?”

Julian’s voice remained cool. “What do you think?”

The answer was obvious.

Veronica laughed softly. “So even though we’re technically family, Quinn still outranks me now?”

Julian did not bother being polite. “You’re comparing yourself to her?”

The meaning behind his words was crystal clear.

Veronica sighed. “You’re already this protective, and you two aren’t even together yet. If you really end up together someday, you’re going to spoil her completely.”

Julian sounded perfectly matter-of-fact. “If I spoil my woman, isn’t that exactly how it should be?”

Veronica chuckled. “If you keep talking like that, I’m going to start feeling jealous. Why couldn’t I meet a

man who treats me that well?”

Julian replied bluntly, “That’s because you had terrible taste back then.”

Veronica laughed. “Fair enough. I did.”

Julian added calmly, “If you want a divorce, go ahead. I’ll deal with the rest.”

“That’s all I needed to hear,” Veronica said. “Don’t worry. I’ll keep an eye on Quinn. And once she’s divorced, I’ll happily help you out.”
