Chapter 126 Stepping Away
Julian’s expression remained tense.
He wiped his hands slowly with a warm towel before standing up and putting on his coat.
He did not say a single word.
Only after they stepped outside the restaurant did he finally speak, “Get in the car. I’ll drive you home.”

Lucy had just started to move when Quinn gently held her arm. “That won’t be necessary, Mr. Sterling” Quinn said politely. “Lucy and I want to walk around and buy a few things nearby.”
Julian looked at her. His gaze was deep, but the warmth that had been there earlier was gone.
This time Quinn didn’t avoid his eyes.
She even smiled lightly. “Drive safely, Mr.

car through the cold winter wind, his long strides steady and silent.
“I don’t know why,” she muttered quietly, “but it kind of looks like Julian’s heart just got shattered.”
There was something lonely about the way he walked away.
Quinn looked away. “Let’s go,” she said softly.
“Go where?” Lucy asked. “What do you want to buy?”
“Nothing,” Quinn replied. “I just want to walk for a while.”
Lucy shivered. “It’s freezing out here.”
Quinn reached over and pulled Lucy’s hat down over her ears. Lucy wrapped Quinn’s scarf tighter around her neck.
“Fine,” Lucy said. “Let’s walk.”
The two girls linked arms and began walking down the winter street together.
“Lucy,” Quinn said after a while, “there’s something I want to tell you. Don’t get mad.”
Lucy immediately asked, “Is this about Julian?”
Quinn blinked. “Julian? No.”
“Then what?”
Quinn stopped walking.

Chapter 126 Stepping Away
“Lucy… I’m sorry,” she said quietly. “I’m going to move out.”
Lucy froze. “What?”
For a moment she thought the wind had distorted the words. Quinn repeated gently, “I’m moving out.”
“Quinn!” Lucy suddenly grabbed her arm. “What do you mean? We agreed we’d live together.”
“I know,” Quinn said softly. “I broke my promise. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t move out,” Lucy said quickly, shaking her arm. “We’re happy living together. It’s fun, and we can look out for each other. If you leave, I’ll be stuck in that big apartment all by myself.”
Quinn stayed silent. Lucy let go of her and stomped her foot in frustration.
“Quinn, I’m really getting mad!”
Quinn suddenly stepped forward and hugged her tightly. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t do this,” Lucy said, both angry and upset. “Why do you have to move out? We already planned everything.”
Quinn gently straightened Lucy’s collar. “You know I’m planning to go back to school after the divorce,” she said softly. “When that happens, I’ll be living on campus anyway.”
“I know that,” Lucy replied, “but that’s later.”
“I already contacted one of the professors,” Quinn explained. “They said they might be able to help me apply for housing early.”
She smiled gently. “I’ll still visit you often.”
Quinn spent a long time comforting her, but Lucy remained unhappy. Still, Quinn had already made up her mind.
When they returned home, she immediately began packing. There wasn’t much to pack.
She had arrived with only one suitcase. Lucy stood at the bedroom door, clearly upset.
After Quinn finished packing, she walked over to comfort her.
“I promise,” Quinn said softly, “if you’re free on weekends, I’ll come stay with you.”
Lucy shook her head and hugged her tightly. “That’s not the same.”
Then she asked quietly, “Quinn, are you mad at me?”
Quinn laughed gently. “Silly girl. Why would I be mad at you?”
“Because of Julian.”
Quinn shook her head. “No. This has nothing to do with Julian.”
“Really?”
“Really.”

Chapter 126 Stepping Away
Even though Quinn said that, Lucy still pulled out her phone.
Lucy sent a message, “Julian, Quinn is moving out. She’s not going to live with me anymore”
She added a crying emoji.
Julian stared at the message on his screen for a long time. He understood what Quinn meant.
And he could see how determined she was.
She didn’t want any connection with him. She was even willing to distance herself from Lucy.
Julian rubbed the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes with a quiet sigh.
There had never been a problem in his life that felt difficult to solve. Except Quinn.
Now he genuinely didn’t know how he should approach her.
She wasn’t divorced yet. That meant he had to be careful.
He had to respect the line between them.
But even before he could take a step closer, Quinn had already run far away. She was smart.
Of course she could see that he treated her differently.
And because she saw it, she chose to avoid him. The reason she avoided him was simple. She didn’t like him.

Julian had never been someone who relied on his looks, but he knew very well that many women were interested in him.
Some liked his wealth. Some admired his status. Some were attracted to his family background. And some simply liked his appearance.
But in Quinn’s eyes, he seemed to have no appeal at all. Lucy had once told him that Quinn admitted he was impressive. But that was probably just politeness. Julian suddenly wondered something he had never considered before.
What exactly did it take to win a woman’s heart?
How did you make someone notice you? Care about you? Like you?
Julian had always believed he would never face a question like that.
Now it seemed that when it came to love, he still had a lot to learn.
That night, Julian appeared in a private lounge at an exclusive club. Zeke had come with him. Zeke was a regular there, and they even had a private room reserved for their circle.
But Julian was rarely seen in places like this.
