Chapter 128 The Rumors

Zeke tilted his chin toward the group of women.

“Alright,” he said with a teasing grin. “Here’s the deal. If any of you can make him smile tonight, I’ll grant you one favor. Anything you want, just ask.”

The girls instantly burst into excited chatter.

Zeke laughed and led the group toward Julian.

Hearing the approaching footsteps, Julian slowly lifted his gaze. His eyes were deep and calm. The effect was overwhelming.

A few of the girls nearly gasped out loud.

He was ridiculously handsome.

Not just his face, but the way he carried himself, the perfectly tailored suit, the effortless elegance that seemed almost untouchable.

He looked like someone who didn’t quite belong in an ordinary room.

Like something rare that had somehow wandered into the real world.

And strangely enough, that perfection made some people want to get closer, just to see if they could break through it.

“Julian,” Zeke said, dropping onto the couch beside him, “they wanted to come say hi.”

Julian lowered his gaze again.

His voice was calm and cool. “Too loud.”

The single comment was enough. Tonight he had only come here because his mind had been restless.

Otherwise he never would have shown up. Zeke turned back to the group of women.

“Well, you heard him,” he said, waving his hand. “Show’s over. Go find something else to do.”

He shooed them away, and the corner returned to quiet.

Zeke leaned back again.

“You can’t keep going like this forever,” he said.

Julian replied simply, “She’s still married.”

Which meant that for now, there was nothing he could do.

Zeke sighed.

“Divorce is just a matter of time,” he said. “But after that? What’s your plan? If she really doesn’t like you, what are you going to do?”

Julian stared at the glass in his hand.

“I don’t know.”

Zeke had known Julian for years.

Julian was the kind of person who always had control of a situation before anyone else even understood what was happening

He had never seen Julian look this uncertain and lost. Even Zeke felt a strange sympathy watching him.

“So this is what heartbreak feels like,” Zeke said with a half smile. “I guess life finally decided to be fair. It gave you everything, but there’s one thing it doesn’t want to hand over so easily.”

Julian glanced at him. Then he stood up, adjusting the buttons on his suit jacket as he reached for his coat.

“You’re leaving already?” Zeke asked, standing too. “It’s still early.”

Julian replied calmly, “If I’m going to spend time listening to you talk nonsense, I might as well go work out instead.”

Zeke looked him up and down.

“You know what’s tragic?” he said with a grin. “You spend all that time in the gym building a body like that, and there isn’t even a woman around to appreciate it.”

He stepped forward and tapped Julian lightly on the chest.

“Look at this. And this. And the rest of it.”

Then his gaze dropped lower, clearly teasing.

“So tell me something. Do you ever get frustrated? How do you deal with that, huh? I’m still waiting for the answer from that truth- or-dare game.”

Julian pushed him aside. “Grow up.”

Then he walked toward the door.

Zeke hurried after him.

“Fine, fine. I’ll leave with you. On the way I’ll teach you a few tricks for chasing women.”

Julian glanced sideways. “What tricks?”

The two of them walked out while still talking.

Behind them, the disappointed girls watched them leave.

One of the men nearby laughed.

“If you’re looking for a target, go after Zeke. You might have a chance there. But if you’re hoping to get involved with Julian, you’re aiming way too high. Forget it.”

One girl lowered her voice and asked quietly, “Then why isn’t he interested in women? Could it be that he’s actually…

“Careful what you say,” someone warned quickly.

But another girl shrugged.

“I’m just saying. He’s not exactly young anymore, and we’ve never seen him with a girlfriend. Either he’s not interested in women, or he’s interested in men.”

Lucy received the New Year’s Eve party invitation the same night.

Along with it came a flood of rumors about Julian. Zeke had sent her the invitation himself and told her to come celebrate.

He also specifically asked her to invite Quinn.

Lucy agreed.

She belonged to several group chats filled with people from prominent families in Lakeshore City.

Most of the time she barely paid attention to them.

Compared with the others, Lucy was practically an odd one out.

She didn’t show off luxury brands, didn’t drive flashy sports cars, and didn’t spend her days drifting between parties.

After graduating she moved out on her own, tried different jobs, drove a modest sedan, and worked long hours without complaint.

The others often joked that she was making life harder than it needed to be.

But Lucy genuinely enjoyed living that way. She didn’t bother with their social games, and they rarely bothered with her either.

Most of those friendships were superficial anyway.

But today the chat groups were exploding with notifications. People kept tagging her.

Lucy had no idea what was happening. She opened the chat and sent a confused emoji.

Almost immediately someone replied, “Lucy, you’re finally here!”

Lucy typed back, “What’s going on? Why is everyone tagging me?”

Another message popped up.

“Lucy, we need you to confirm something.”

Lucy replied, “What kind of thing?”

Several messages appeared almost at the same time.

“Lucy, have you seen Julian recently?”

“Lucy, has Julian ever dated anyone?”

“Lucy, does Julian have any problems with women?”

“Lucy… is Julian actually into men?”

Lucy read through the messages one by one.

At first she didn’t think much of it.

But the further she read, the darker her expression became.
