Chapter 132 The Breaking Point

Chapter 132 The Breaking Point

The voice on the phone suddenly changed. Elaine had taken the phone from Victor.

Originally, Victor and Elaine had planned something very different. They wanted Chase to divorce Quinn and marry Rosalie instead.

In their minds, a son-in-law like Chase was too valuable to lose. They had always believed he should have married Rosalie in the first place.

But then Rosalie called them recently.

She hinted that she might start dating someone soon, someone whose wealth, status, and influence were all far beyond Chase’s

That changed everything.

Victor and Elaine immediately shifted their position.

Now they strongly opposed Quinn’s divorce.

They had even started comforting Chase, promising that if the case went to court, they would testify in his favor.

**You only care about appearances,” Quinn said quietly. “What about me? My happiness? My whole life?”

Her voice sounded faint.

Partly because she already knew the answer. At this point, explaining anything felt pointless.

She had finally understood something about them. To Victor and Elaine, she was simply a decoration.

As long as she behaved well, achieved impressive things, and married into the right family, she fulfilled her role.

The moment she showed flaws or resistance, she became a disappointment. They had never truly cared whether she was happy, safe, or loved.

“We already told you,” Elaine said impatiently. “Everything we do is for your benefit. Do you really think we would hurt you? Staying with Chase is what’s best for you. Why won’t you listen?”

Victor added coldly, “If you were even half as sensible as your sister, actually, even one tenth as sensible, we wouldn’t have to worry about you all the time.”

The thought that Rosalie’s future boyfriend might be even more impressive than Chase made them eager to brag.

Elaine could not hold it in any longer.

“You should learn from Rosalie,” she said proudly. “She told us she’s seeing someone now. His background, his influence, his wealth, everything about him is far beyond Chase. She makes us so proud.”

Quinn blinked in surprise. “She’s seeing someone?”

She was genuinely shocked.

After all, Quinn knew Rosalie had always kept several men orbiting around her.

She never fully accepted them, but she never rejected them either. She kept just enough distance to maintain their interest. Whenever problems appeared, Rosalie always managed to frame the situation in a way that made those men feel guilty instead.

Somehow they always ended up believing they were the ones who had hurt her.

If Quinn was being honest, she had always been impressed by Rosalie’s skill at manipulating men.

It was something Quinn had never understood and never learned to do. That was why, when she was young and naive, she had been drawn to Chase.

Back then she had only seen the charming side of him. Tall, handsome, gentle.

Now she realized how easily those qualities could be faked. Rosalie had seen through him much earlier.

Even though Chase had once been the best catch among the men around them, Rosalie still chose to leave the country rather than pursue him.

She had never given him a chance.

So hearing that Rosalie now had a boyfriend surprised Quinn.

What kind of man could make Rosalie finally stop playing the field?

Elaine continued proudly, “She said if everything goes well, she might bring him home during the holidays so we can meet him. Quinn, think about that. If your sister brings her boyfriend home and everyone finds out you’re getting divorced, how embarrassing would that be for our family? His family is extremely traditional. If they break up because of this, will you take responsibility?”

Quinn could hardly believe what she was hearing.

“If someone breaks up with her just because I’m getting divorced,” she said, “do you really think that relationship is worth anything? When two people truly care about each other, things like that don’t matter.”

“Don’t get clever with your arguments,” Elaine snapped. “We already told you. We do not agree to this divorce. If you insist on taking Chase to court, fine. When that happens, we will testify for him. Do you think the judge will believe your story alone, or ours?”

Quinn felt a rush of disbelief and anger.

“You can’t be serious,” she said. “How could you do something like that?”

“We’ve said everything we needed to say,” Elaine replied coldly. “Think carefully about your choices.”

The call ended. The line went silent.

Quinn slowly lowered the phone, her arm suddenly feeling heavy. She couldn’t understand how they could do something like this, lying in court just to stop her from going through with the divorce, to avoid embarrassment, and to protect Rosalie’s relationship. They were university professors, people who spent their days teaching students about ethics and principles, yet they could say something like that without the slightest hesitation.

In that moment, Quinn felt a strange and sudden clarity.

If they had no moral line they refused to cross, why should she still expect anything from them?
