Chapter 151 Not That Simple

Everything in the room had been sorted out neatly, each item put back exactly where it belonged.

Lucy nudged Quinn lightly with her elbow, leaning closer with a playful grin.

So, what do you think?she said, glancing toward Julian’s back as he worked in the kitchen, clearly enjoying the view. Be honest, he cleans up nice, he cooks like a chef, he’s basically the kind of guy you’d bring home and never want to return. Tell me that’s not impressive.

Quinn quickly looked away, a faint warmth rising to her cheeks. What are you even saying?

I’m talking about Julian,Lucy said casually. You seriously don’t think he’d make an amazing boyfriend?

The kind you date for a while and then walk away from?

Quinn didn’t want anything like that.

If she ever chose to be with someone, it would be with the intention of staying for good.

She understood that relationships could get complicated, that things could fall apart midway, but she would never knowingly step into something that had no real future.

She gave a small, polite smile. Yeahwhoever ends up with him is going to be pretty lucky.

Lucy tilted her head, a knowing look in her eyes. It’s not about luck. It depends on who he actually wants.

Quinn hesitated for a moment before speaking. Didn’t you say your future’s probably going to be arranged? Wouldn’t Julian be the same?

Lucy paused, clearly caught off guard by the question.

She hadn’t really thought about it before.

After a brief silence, she shrugged. Maybeyeah. I guess that’s possible. I don’t really know.

Realistically, someone like Julian probably would end up in a strategic marriage.

That was how families like theirs had always operated.

Quinn just smiled faintly, but that was enough.

Lucy instantly realized what she had overlooked. She should never have tried to push these two together.

If Julian really did end up in some arranged marriage, what would happen to Quinn?

Would he just walk away like it meant nothing, or keep her around in the shadows?

Either option made Lucy uncomfortable.

She suddenly wrapped her arms around Quinn’s, her tone turning serious. “Quinn, I mean it, I’m on your side. Whatever you decide, I’ve got you.

Lucy, get in here.

Julian’s voice came from the kitchen.

Quinn, go relax in your room, I’ll call you when dinner’s ready,” Lucy said quickly, already heading off. Coming!

Quinn stood there for a moment.

Even though she wanted to avoid interacting with Julian, it didn’t feel right to just hide in her room while someone else cooked for her.

In the kitchen, Julian glanced toward the living room. What were you two whispering about?

Nothing,Lucy said a little too fast, her tone slightly off.

She had already made up her mind.

She was standing with Quinn.

As for Julian, she wasn’t thinking about that right now.

She had been too naive before, assuming that if Julian showed interest in someone, it must mean something serious.

Now she wasn’t so sure.

Maybe he is justhaving fun. That thought irritated her.

Julian gave her a look. What’s with that expression? You talking about me?

No!Lucy shook her head immediately. So what are we having tonight?

You’ll eat whatever I make,Julian replied calmly. And be nice to Quinn. Don’t take advantage of her just because she’s easygoing.

I know, I know,Lucy said with a grin. I’d never mess with her. I like her way too much.

Julian added, And remember what I told you. No grabbing, no kissing.

Yeah, yeah, got it.

Out in the living room, Quinn quietly started straightening things up.

Before long, Lucy was sent back out.

He seriously thinks I’m useless,Lucy muttered, dropping onto the couch. I can’t cook, but hey, I tried to help.

Quinn wanted to step in and offer help, but knowing Julian was in there made her hesitate.

She just couldn’t bring herself to walk into that kitchen.

Luckily, Julian didn’t need help at all.

From prepping ingredients to setting everything on the table, it took him about an hour.

After finishing, he washed his hands and walked out, his eyes casually sweeping the room before landing on something.

The cufflinks he had left on the table earlier were now resting neatly on top of a soft, pale green silk scarf.

He paused for half a second, then looked toward the dining area.

Lucy was leaning close to Quinn, saying something quietly. Quinn smiled in response, a small dimple forming on her cheek.

It wasstriking.

Julian walked over as if nothing had caught his attention. Try it and tell me what you think.

They all sat down.

Lucy barely took a couple of bites before raising her thumb enthusiastically. Okay, this is ridiculous. You’re way too good at this.

Quinn had tasted his cooking before, but even now, she couldn’t help feeling a quiet sense of disbelief.

How is it possible for someone to be this good at everything?

A few minutes later, Julian nudged Lucy under the table with his foot.

She didn’t react at first, just glanced at him in confusion.

She was about to ask what that was for when he nudged her again, this time sharper, paired with a warning look.

Lucy froze. Oh. He is telling me to leave.

She suddenly felt like she’d just been used and dismissed.

She wasn’t even done eating, but there was no way she was going to argue with him.
