Chapter 159 The Fitting

Quinn hesitated for a moment before speaking, her voice low but steady. “I’m sorry… I don’t think I can do
that.”
Julian studied her for a second, then said calmly, “Alright. Then what about the suit you promised me, are you backing out of that too?”
“No.” Quinn said quickly, almost instinctively. “I’ll still make the suit.”
“You’ll need my measurements for that,” Julian said, his tone even. “No point putting it off. The sooner it’s done, the sooner we can both move on.”
Quinn paused, letting that sink in.
Yeah, sooner is better. Once it’s done, there’s no reason for us to stay in each other’s lives.
She nodded. “Okay.”
Julian didn’t waste time. “So, should we do it now?”
That word, measurements, made her tense up instantly. Quinn felt a quiet resistance build in her chest.
Getting that close to him, standing inches away, measuring his shoulders, his chest, his waist… it wasn’t just professional for her.
It felt personal. Too personal.
And that made it hard.
“If now’s not a good time,” Julian added, watching her expression, “we can schedule it. You pick when and where.”
Quinn took a breath, then said, “Let’s do it at Adele’s shop. I’ll check with her first and text you the time. Is that okay?”
If Adele was there, at least it wouldn’t just be the two of them. That alone made it easier to agree.
And maybe, just maybe, Adele could step in and handle the measuring.
That would solve everything.
Julian nodded without hesitation. “Works for me. I’ll wait for your message.”
Having a clear plan seemed to settle something in him.
He could tell she was avoiding him, and there was no reason to push it further right now.
He reached for his cufflinks and slipped them on. “I’ll head out,”
Quinn walked him to the door. “Take care.”

She watched him step outside, then followed a couple of steps behind.
Julian turned back slightly. “Don’t take too long figuring out the time.”
“I won’t,” she said.
Once he left, Quinn shut the door quickly and leaned against it, letting out a long breath.
It wasn’t just her.
Julian seemed just as eager to get this over with.

Like he wanted to close this chapter as soon as possible so they wouldn’t have to deal with each other again.
Makes sense. What I said yesterday probably hit his pride.
She stood there quietly, unsure what she was feeling. Everything was going exactly how she had planned.
Exactly how it should be.
So why did it feel… off?
Because the truth was, a man like Julian, any woman would notice him. That kind of presence wasn’t something you could ignore.
It was just that he stood too far out of reach, too high above her world.
She had always known there was no real possibility between them.
She could say no.
That part was easy.
But what came after, the quiet disappointment, the empty feeling she couldn’t quite explain, that part had nowhere to go.
No one to tell. So she kept it to herself.
After a while, she picked up her phone and called Adele.
What she didn’t know was that Julian had already called Adele earlier.
Right after leaving, he had explained everything and made his intentions clear.
So when Adele saw Quinn’s name on the screen, she was already smiling.
“Of course you can come by,” Adele said warmly. “Anytime works, sweetheart. You tell me when.”
Quinn got straight to the point. “Adele… when the time comes to take his measurements, could you help me?”
Adele laughed softly. “Oh honey, these eyes aren’t what they used to be. You really trust me with that?”

It wasn’t entirely a joke.
Over the past couple of years, Adele had mostly stopped taking new clients.
The shop didn’t rely on income anymore, it was just something she enjoyed.
Most of her regular clients already had their measurements on file, and if anything changed, they’d just update it quickly.
Quinn used to help with that all the time.
“Do you already have his measurements?” Quinn asked carefully. “Could I maybe use those as a reference?”
Adele’s tone turned gentle but firm. “Quinn, you know I can’t share client information like that. It’s confidential. And honestly, it’s just measuring someone, why are you so nervous? This is your profession. You can’t keep avoiding it.”
Quinn fell quiet.
Because she knew Adele was right.
If she wanted to keep doing this, she had to get past this mental block.
And the truth was, out of all people, Julian was the hardest one for her.
His presence, his voice, the way he carried himself, it all made her feel… unsettled.
But if she could get through this with him, then she could handle anyone.

Adele added gently, “I’ll be there with you. What are you worried about? Come on, Quinn, I want to see you become an incredible designer.”
Quinn finally gave in. “Okay… tomorrow at seven?”
“Even better,” Adele said. “Come over for dinner first, then stay and wait for him.”
“That works,” Quinn said. “I’ll bring groceries.”
Adele didn’t argue.
Quinn always showed up with something anyway.
After they finalized the plan, Quinn opened her phone and sent Julian a message.
