Chapter 161 Locking Him In
Finished
Rosalie had always been attracted to men with power and presence, the kind who walked into a room and owned it without trying. The problem was, the more powerful a man was, the less likely he was to be controlled.
At the same time, men who lacked ambition or capability barely registered to her. She could not respect them, let alone build a future with them.
So that left her with one strategy, play to her strengths and make Julian fall so hard he would never even think about leaving.
Her short–term plan was already mapped out. She would go home for the holidays, spend time with him, and make their relationship official.
Within a year, she wanted an engagement.
She had always believed that men, no matter how modern they seemed, still cared about a woman’s past more than they admitted.
So when she and Julian finally became intimate, she was certain it would feel special to him in a way he would not expect.
And once that happened, his feelings for her would only deepen.
With that decision made, Rosalie immediately called her parents and made it clear that they needed to be on her side. No more hinting or pushing her toward Chase. That chapter needed to be closed.
As for Chase, she still needed to figure out the cleanest way to cut him off. She wanted him to let go, but not walk away resentful. That balance would take some thought.
Quinn, on the other hand, had no idea any of this was happening.
Right now, she had one goal, get out of her marriage.
After sitting with it for a moment, she picked up her phone and called Chase.
He answered almost immediately, his tone half mocking, half hopeful. “Wow, didn’t expect a call from you. What is it, you changed your mind about the divorce?”
Hearing his voice now, Quinn felt nothing but clarity. Once the haze of her teenage crush faded, all she could see were the cracks she had ignored for years.
Back then, his kindness had not even been about her. It had been about impressing Rosalie, about putting on a show in front of Elaine.
And she had fallen for it anyway.
She had taken that small bit of attention and warmth and convinced herself it was love
I really gave up years of my life for that.

Now she could see him for exactly who he was.
A man who could offer up his own wife to someone else had no integrity to speak of.
Quinn said, “Did you call Rosalie?”
Chase clicked his tongue. “You don’t even call her your sister anymore? That’s kind of cold.”

Quinn let out a soft, almost amused breath. “You’re still technically her brother–in–law, right? Have you ever called her your sister?”
Chase paused, then snapped back, clearly irritated. “Why did you call me?”
“Did she tell you she doesn’t have a boyfriend?”
“Oh, so that’s what this is about,” Chase said, his voice sharpening. “I was actually going to ask you about that. Why would you lie and say she has one? Are you trying to mess things up between us?”
“She denied it, didn’t she?” Quinn said calmly. “And you didn’t even question it?”
Chase hesitated. “What are you getting at?”
“She does have a boyfriend. She just didn’t want you interfering, so she told you what you wanted to hear. By the time you figure it out, she might already be engaged.”
“That’s not true. Rosalie wouldn’t lie to me,” Chase said immediately, but there was already a crack in his certainty.
Quinn’s voice stayed even. “If you’re that confident, then don’t be surprised when she shows up with a ring.”
“How would you even know something like that? Did she tell you
herself?”
“She told our parents, and they told me,” Quinn replied. “And from what they said, the guy she’s seeing is way ahead of you in every way. Career, background, everything.”
“What?” Chase’s voice tightened, the confidence slipping. “No, that… that doesn’t make sense…”
Quinn did not give him time to recover. “You’re still married to me, which means you don’t even have the option to go after her right now. If you actually care, then sign the divorce papers. Once you’re single, you can do whatever you want.”
Chase had never been someone who made firm decisions on his own.
At first, he had wanted the divorce.
Then his parents–in–law pushed back, and Charles laid out all the risks, from reputation to business
consequences.
So he backed off.
But now, the thought of Rosalie choosing someone else lit a fire under him.

He did not love Quinn. That much was clear.
Their marriage had never truly existed in any real sense.
And if he acted fast enough, he still believed he had a chance with Rosalie.
As for the company, the stock, the fallout, none of that mattered in this moment.

“Fine,” Chase said, the decision snapping into place. “I’ll confirm whether this is real. If it is, I’ll agree to the divorce.”
Quinn did not let it slide. “And how exactly are you planning to confirm it? Because we’re not dragging this out forever.”
“She’s coming back for the holidays,” Chase replied. “It’s soon.. When she gets here, I’ll know.”
Quinn pressed, “So we’re clear, if she really has a boyfriend, you’ll sign?”
“Yes.”

That was enough. Quinn ended the call.
She stared at her phone for a second, then let out a slow breath. Whatever she had once felt for Chase was completely gone.
Even back then, it had not really been love. It had been gratitude, dependency, confusion.
She had not known what real feelings looked like.
Now she did.
And somehow, it still feels like I’m too late.
But at least things were moving forward.
For the first time in a long time, the divorce felt real.
The next afternoon, Quinn stopped by a grocery store and picked up fresh fruit and a few other things before heading down the quiet street toward Adele’s place, both hands full.
Adele heard the door and immediately got up. “Why did you buy so much again? You never listen.”
Quinn shifted the bags out of her reach, smiling. “It’s just fruit. I figured you and Jordan could snack on it.. It’ll keep
When it came to them, Quinn never thought twice about spending money.
